Loose Connection..

Hi all!

I recently got my hands on a Asat Classic Custom from 2011 - the orange one..
It is a fantastic Guitar, and I cant stop play, until now.
Looks like the switch to the microfons have some loose Connection or can it be oxide, becuse the lovely sound just disappear and then comes back for a short period just to go away again when I flip the switch. Anyone experienced the same problem?

Is one pickup is working and not the other?

All the pickups work, but the sound comes and goes, if I flip the pickup switch back and forth, the right sound might come back for a short time..

It sounds like either the switch itself is bad, or a wire that connects it is not soldered properly. You should take off the plate (the metal one underneath the knobs and switch) and take a peek at the switch and the wiring. Wiggle the wires to see if anything is loose, unless your guitar was submerged in water at some point, or left in a very damp basement for a long time - there shouldn't be any corrosion, but you never know. It is more likely that a wire is loose.

If everything seems okay there - check the wires going to (and coming from) the output jack. The problem may only *seem* to be in the switch if the slight jerk/vibration of physically changing the position of the switch is enough to cause a fault in a wire elsewhere - it'd have to be on the signal chain - and that means probably the jack.

If that all looks fine - check the cable you are using to plug the guitar in. If you wiggle or bend the cable - does it cut in and out? If you're playing through a set up that lets you use headphones - check everything in that chain - headphones, adapters, etc.

If all of that comes back empty - you'll probably need to go through the circuit with a meter and figure out exactly where the problem is.

My guess though, is a loose wire, and if it's that, a little bit of probing and pulling in the circuit will soon find the problem.

Same things happened to me on another guitar. Was a quick fix as it was bad connection between the metal dents in the switch. It can be a bad wire too (solder is possible) in your case - the two are the best bet. That's my guess too. DanDoulogos said it better than me, but still, wanted to share common experience, can always help to know it happens often.

I will take a look tonight and see if I can spot the problem.

I was actually on my way to buy a new Fender American Deluxe Telecaster Ash White Blonde, the last one in Sweden, but then I tried the Asat and the feel and sound was to my ears better, so I changed my mind.

late to the party but- I would start with contact cleaning spray on all switches, pots and the jack.
corrosion can really cause lots of odd problems. it may be an easy solution. good luck.
