G&L Quality Control

Post by glowworm »

Longtime lurker and this may be might first post.

I have about 6 G&Ls. My first I bought off the rack in 1993 -- an ASAT Classic. Then in the late 2000s I acquired a Classic 3. Then I got a NOS Blondie a few years ago. I then got a hardtail Comanche and a USA Fallout. Here's my issue. The volume and tone knobs vary widely. On the Comanche, the volume knob is nice and light but the tone is as stiff as a cadaver. But on the Fallout, it is the complete opposite: light tone, stiff volume. I have not experienced this inconsistency on any other brand that I own: Gibson, Fender, Hofner, Hamer, Rickenbacker. In fact, I have never observed this on any Tribute G&L, either. So what's going on down there in the Fullerton factory? Am I the only one experiencing this? Does G&L even do QC at all? The volume and tone knobs are critical for many players. So what gives?

Thanks, GW
