Hey guys!! It's been quite awhile.... Solomente question

The place to discuss, post photos, video, and audio of the G&L products (US instruments, stomp boxes, etc.) produced after 1991, including the amps & gear we use with them.

Hey guys!! It's been quite awhile.... Solomente question

Post by Sean Clavin »

So here's the deal. I picked up a used Tribute BB and was thinking of turning it into a Solomente. As the guys at G&L are rather busy (or slow to answer (: ) I thought I'd ask all yall. Has anyone done this and if so, how much different is the pickguard ?

Thanks!!

Not sure if the Solamente pickup is wound differently than a ASAT classic bridge, but maybe you accomplish the same thing by only playing the guitar with the bridge pickup? I don't think a USA pickguard will fit your Tribute but you could remove and trace the pickguard, send it to pickguardheaven, and have them make one without the neck pickup hole.

Good to see you back!

Here's the wiring diagram for the Solamente models:

Note that your Tribute BB will have the modified bridge pickup, but I don't think it will effect the conversion you are considering.

I think the screw holes are located in slightly different locations.

Hope this helps.

My only question is will the pickguard fit the Tribute? Not worried about screw holes, but everything else.

Might be a 'suck it and see' situation. They're in the clearance items in the online store... My guess is that you might have to do a bit of reshaping around the control cover. A dremel makes this really easy if you have one

Ordered the Solomente pickgaurd in 3ply Mint. Might have to trim a bit here and there but that's cool. Should be cool!!

And........ it's already shipped! WOW that was FAST!!

I also might go with the MFD in the bridge instead of the AlNiCo that it came with. I love the bridge tones on my Red BluesBoy, but we will see how this thing lays out first.

See: Tutorial: Posting photos.

Did you do the full Solamente Alnico conversion?
How did the US pickguard fit on the Tribute?
Can you post some audio and/or video? See: Tutorial: Posting YouTube videos and Tutorial: Posting audio files.

Well, I put the new pickguard on and the only thing I had to do is a slight "dremeling" around the switch plate. Everything else was perfect. I was in a hurry and did not have the appropriate cap values so I just left the humbucker in there and......it still works :) when I get a second I'll be removing it but it's fun in the meantime to have people play it and try and figure out how I am getting that killer tone in the third position!!

I'm not as happy with the Alnico pickup as I thought I would be. I might be ordering the MFD soon as I really love the tone of that in my Red BB (see my profile pic). But I will give it time before I do anything, just some random thoughts on a Wednesday.
