Kudos to Martin Music Memphis TN

Post by sam »

Howdy folks,

Back from another day "On the road again" but had a very pleasant musical experience at a G&L dealer. (hard to imagine a "non-pleasant" experience anywhere they have G&L guitars) I was in Memphis, TN and knew Martin Music was there so the search was on. Fortunately their shop on Poplar was close to downtown. As a purveyor of G&L guitars I was anxious to see what they had based on their web page. Upon entering, Andrew was behind the counter and more than happily asked how could he help. After describing my love of all things G&L he handed me an G&L ASAT Classic Bluesboy - Quilted Maple Top - Lightweight Empress Body that could have easily gone home with me. I am impressed with the weight of the Empress bodies, I held a Empress Legacy that was equally incredibly light. Did not have time to plug in any but I can say, Andrew and the folks at Martin Music can help me find a future ASAT. :happy0065: Check them out if yer in Memphis!

Here's a link to the Bluesboy, oo baby.

Sam,

I find those empress bodied guitars to be some of the coolest guitars out of Fullerton in a long time. So far I have not had one in my hands but the idea of a guitar made from empress is very interesting. Nothing like a 6.5 pound tele made by G&L. They make killer guitars.

It is interesting to note that the build of those guitars has stopped. I have a hard time believing these are not great guitars. I want one.

It is fun hitting new guitar stores. Or at least new to me.
One of my favorite experiences was stopping in on a mom and pop store on our way to see Gramma and asking if they had ever seen any G&L's. On my return home I stopped back in and had my pick of his personal collection. I took home a Sc-2 with a flame maple neck. I think it was $400.00 and I payed him off over the next month. I was poor then and I am still poor.

cool sign!
I bought my comanche from them online in 2015. They were a pleasure to deal with.
I just recently had a very positive experience buying a 1984 skyhawk from Killer Vintage Guitars in St. Louis. Cool guys with alot of knowledge, good deals, and a pleasure to work with. Beautiful skyhawk, too. I'll post on that in a few days when I get a chance to take pics, etc.
