Legacy Empress SSS to HSS Conversion

Post by mojokorn »

I see on the G&L site that they offer the pickguards options to do replace pickguard with a different pickup configuration. I want to make sure that the Legacy Empress is routed such that the Humbucker will fit in the Bridge position without the need to route the guitar.

Any information on this is super appreciated.

Note that I would have done a search for this but did not see a search function on the forum.

Thanks,

Jeremy

Welcome to our site!

The Search link is next to the Login link. See Forum rules: Welcome! Read This First.

You should then be able to find this post: "Which G&L guitar models have the body with a bathtub route?".

Your Legacy with empress body wood will have the same pickup route as the standard Legacy.

Please do post a photo of your special production build Legacy. For posting photos, see the "Tutorial: Posting photos" link found in the linked document above.

Hope this helps.

Thanks! I found the posts with the bathtub route list. Looks like I'm good to go. I'm planning to put a railhammer in the Bridge position - hopefully not heresy to say on this forum. I'll post pics when done.

Actually, I just ordered the Harmonic Design VP Humbucker. A much better choice (IMO) AND they're able to make it with a white cover :-)

Mojokorn, I hope you meant that you ordered a Z90, not a VP90. The VP90 is a P90 size pickup, and will not fit in a humbucker pickup slot. The Z90 is the humbucker sized version of the VP90.

I think the Z90 is a great pickup. I am sure you will like it! It might be quite a bit higher output that the alnico single coils, but you can always lower the pickup height. I think the Z90 actually sounds better at lower pickup height positions. Good luck!

Cho, the Z90 is a fantastic pickup indeed. Had one in my Reverend Manta Ray - killer! Yes, not the VP-9o. I meant the Harmonic Designs Vintage Plus Classic Humbucker. Robben Fords endorsement of those goes a long way. If I end up not digging it, my plan is to drop a Z90 in the Humbucker slot.

I currently own a SC-2 and love the neck. I'll be putting the pickup in a Tangerine Metallic Legacy Empress that is on the way (purchased online yesterday). I'm all a tingle in anticipation :-)
