Reputable shops that can fix a G&L in socal?

Post by peachcake »

I had recently purchased a G&L asat brand new and my main issue at first was that the neck pickup was much much louder than the bridge for some reason. I had a guy at 13th street guitars try and fix it and what he had done was raise the bridge pickup I believe to balance the volume (which didn't really work). Since that time, the guitar did not sound the same anymore, sounded super muddy through both pickups. I still remember when I first played with it, and I instantly fell in love with it given the tone, sustain, and just how great it sounded, but now it has turned into a huge disappointment.
I tried to take it to another guy, and he was saying the intonation was bad and he tried to fix that messing with the saddles and also lowered both pickups to his liking. Now it sounds I guess a little smoother but for some reason, my sustain is not there anymore, I'm getting fret buzz, also for some reason I'm now getting this weird ringing when i play a G chord or just play the G and B string (sounds very harmonic but very annoying). I know he messed with the saddles and whatnot, so what I was wondering was do you guys know anyone in socal that knows how to work with a G&L guitar? Or better yet, I live pretty close to their factory, anyone know if they are willing to restore my guitar back to factory specs? I just want it to sound like how I first got it.

First, please post a photo of your new ASAT and add it to our G&L Registry. See: Welcome! Read This First.

Why not take it to the G&L dealer you bought it from? Some dealers do their own setups and since you like it the way it was when
you tried it and then bought it, ask them if they can set it back up to what it was when you got it.
Check the US Dealers list on G&L's website for other dealers in your area.
If you are near Fullerton, CA you might contact G&L Support and ask them for a recommendation of guitar techs in the area.

For the current factory setup, see our G&L Knowledgebase forum, G&L Tech Questions & Tips sub-forum.

Hope this helps.

I would love to send it back to the dealer but I had purchased it online from MF. I'm away from the computer but I'll upload asap!

I have taken many guitars, including three G&Ls, to Asken Guitars in the "Beverlywood" neighborhood of Los Angeles. He does excellent work at a very fair price. http://www.askenguitars.com/

Not sure where you are in SoCal, but I've had decent results from Wild West Guitars in Riverside, CA. They're a PRS shop, but their tech does excellent work.
