How to get year of manufacture for SB 2 Bass

I have an SB2 bass and the serial # is B035747. How do I find out what year it was made?

I looked in the registery but it didn't come up.

Looking for S/Ns around yours there is quite a range popping up, somewhere between 2000 and 2005. It is one of the consequences of G&L not using S/Ns in sequence in those days which you can read about on the "How do I determine an instrument's age?" page on the Knowledgebase.

Surest way is to take the neck off and look for date stamps in the neck pocket and neck heel.

From 1980 through 1996 and into 1997, serial numbers of the form GXXXXXX were used for guitars
and serial numbers of the form BXXXXXX were used for basses.

So, it is somewhere between 1982 and 1997. First production year is 1982.

And as Jos said "Surest way is to take the neck off and look for date stamps in the neck pocket and neck heel."

You might want to contact G&L Customer Support and ask if they can lookup that serial number to get the build (completion) date.

If you post clear photos of the body and headstock it shouldn't be hard to narrow the dates down. Be sure to include close-ups of the headstock decals and the edge of the pickguard (if it has one).
