Need Help - ASAT model/year/specs

Post by bdub56 »

Hi,

I just acquired this G&L ASAT and I'm trying to determine the specifics on it. Unfortunately, the seller didn't have any of the original paperwork. Anyone's help is greatly appreciated.

I'd like to register in the registry here, as well. I entered the serial # with no results. Serial # starts with G050xxx.

It would be helpful to see a closer shot of the headstock and pickguard, but my initial guess would be mid-'90s production. The model is ASAT Special, with "Special" indicating it has chrome hardware. Is that a metal pickguard?

I did a s/n range check in our G&L Registry and I would say the build year is either 1996 or '97. See Serial number significance.
The stock neck would be a #2 (1 5/8" nut width and 7 1/2" fretboard radius). See What are the USA neck size options, past and present?.
The fretboard wood look like it is Ebony, which would be an option.

Hope this helps.

It's an ASAT Special, definitely no later than 1997 (when the serial number format changed). I agree with Craig that it looks like an optional ebony fretboard, and the grain in the headstock photo looks like you might also have the optional quartersawn neck.
