NGD - A Legacy
For several years I've been after a used Fullerton Red Legacy with maple board and white or cream plastic stuff at a good price. I've not been watching like a hawk, more just hoping that there's one available when I run a search. A couple have come up but they've either cost too much or won't ship to Australia. Last week I found one in Canada at a very nice price that the seller was willing to ship so its now mine!
2005 Legacy in Fullerton Red, with cream pick guard and pickup covers, GOT neck, locking tuners. 7.8lbs. In flawless, factory fresh condition. US$770 including shipping cost of US$170. Unfortunately I had to leave the case behind as it was going to cost way $320 to ship it.
I've had a couple of Japanese strats over the last year but never fully bonded with them. With this the bond was immediate. The #1 neck is so familiar to me that I'm sure that has a lot to do with it, but it out performs the other strats I've played in every regard. The ASAT Classic, IMO, is an incremental increase on the already excellent Telecaster. The Legacy is a monumental increase on the Strat. And it seems like this is the general consensus in any review or opinion I've read, whereas the field is split in regards to the Tele VS ASAT.
The only other experience I've had with the DF vibrato has been fleeting and I don't remember thinking it was all that super fantastic. This one is et up really well, and my opinion has changed, its a great piece of hardware. This one has some pretty heavy duty springs in the back, I don't know whether these are stock or were replaced at some point, that are set up to have the bridge floating parallel to the body but bending one string doesn't pull the others out of tune, which is main chief gripe with any vibrato. Its a little stiff to use but thats a fair trade off that I'll get used to. Tuning stability is excellent.
The PTB system is fantastic, they've tuned it just right. Only thing the guitar lacks is an extra switch to allow neck and bridge pickups together. I'm pretty sure I have a push-pull switch that I'll load in next string change and it'll be done. The pickups themselves are also very nice.
Here's 'proof of life', as well as a shot comparing gloss and satin Fullerton Red finishes.

Cool guitar, congrats!!
How much of a pain in the ass was the shipping from Canada? I bought an ASAT III from a real nice guy in Canada last year but it tok weeks to get through the government, Free Trade right??!! Is it worse going to Australia?
The Fullerton Red color has evolved over the years and I like it, but the old Fender and Music Man versions were quite a bit brighter. Mmmmm shiny objects....

Tom - shipping was totally painless. I had the neck removed from the body to make it cheaper, and it only took 5 days to get here. Sounds like you had a tough time! That Sabre is a beauty, fiesta red for the win!FZTNT wrote:Cool guitar, congrats!!

That's a beauty Jamie. Instant Legacy envy right there!
Fullerton red and maple board is the classic S-type combo for good reason.

Very nice mate! I like the Fullerton red a lot. The bone colour of the pick guard works well.
Enjoy!
It does amaze me that these wonderfully built instruments don't get the broader players attention they deserve. Even the tribute series is a great bit of gear!

Tom, the saber of yours is awesome as well. Are those the ones that Leo made for music man?

Thanks all, really loving this thing. Still in tune since Saturday - that DF vibrato is the goods.
Has anyone tried to mount a Tele pickup in the bridge of a Legacy? Any routing or pickup base-plate trimming required? I realise this is easy enough for me to try out for myself, but if someone who's already experimented wants to save me the time that'd be great! Not sure I'll go down this path as the bridge pickup already sounds good but I have a really nice Tele bridge pickup just sitting here...

Re: NGD - A Legacy
Hey Arti, I wish that was my Sabre!! It's one I am thinking of buying but yes, they were made by Leo and George for Music Man. This is a 1977 vintage in mint condition. I am letting my bank account recover from some recent GAS and hopefully by then this guitar will be mine. Wish me luck and good fortune too!!Arti wrote:Tom, the saber of yours is awesome as well.
