Help with 1994 Legacy Special

Post by Arti »

Hi,

I recently added a 1994 Legacy Special to my collection. (images link below - sorry i suck at this photo posting business)

I purchased it for $860(Aussie). The guy i bought it from told me the pick guard had been swapped out along with the pickups.

She plays and sounds great.

The guard is not G&L original so he has drilled fresh holes. He also gave me the original pick ups, but they are worn and the plastic has turned up at the ends (looks like a skateboard deck but not as sharp an upturn) - not tested so i don't know the sound quality?

I want to return her to as original as i possibly can?

The serial number is G040062. I have registered the guitar in the registry.

Any help i can get would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Here's your pic inline... Beautiful Figure in that Ash!

So the original pickups are too warped to fit? I'd like to see a pic of them for fun.

There's some Legacy pickguards on ebay now...and I see you can get the blade pickups from the G&L online store
if you have to. Link
(I think for int'l shipping you have to specify a certain carrier .otherwise shipping is costly)

Welcome!

Hi,

Sorry for not responding sooner and thanks for the welcomes!

The image links are below.

You will see how the pick ups turn up at the ends. All three are the same to varying degrees.

The dude i bought it off said the original pick guard may have been black? But my thoughts are that unless the new pickups wouldn't fit why would you swap same for same colour? Also the guard at the back is white and the nobs are that classic or a vintage white, if you know what i mean?

Thanks again for all the help! http://www.guitarsbyleo.com/FORUM/posti ... 36&t=13654#

Cheers

Arti

Hi Arti, its great to see you here.
I think you should consider restoring the original pickups. Originality matters in my book, am i right with this thought ?

Thanks Geoff, I agree.

I've been doings some research and the pick guard looks like it's off a tribute and the back plate maybe the original?

Not sure if G&L were matching the front and back (colours) like fender? Also what colour would the original nobs have been?

Anyway some work to do!

Cheers

Hi Arti
We can get together to discuss the options for the pickup repairs. The pickguard colour and original knobs can probably be best determined through images in the gallery or on the web. cheers G
