Sample ASAT Deluxe ...

Post by Craig »

This sample ASAT Deluxe with a Walnut top was seen in the G&L On-Line Store:
Note: sample made with walnut top on swamp ash, solid body. Tung oil on body and neck, no finish aside from a small amount of satin for G&L logo application.
Photos taken after over a year and a half without applying another coat of tung oil. We will setup and apply tung oil prior to shipping.
See spec sheet image for more information.

Lovely!

Except those pickup rings make it look cheap

What type and color pick guard would you put on such a guitar..if any?

None for me.

I think a pickguard on a tung oiled walnut top guitar would detract from it.

I would also replace the glossy pickup rings with something matte.

The only pick guard to go on that ASAT is an invisible one!

That wood does not need to be hidden.

I have a solid walnut guitar on order from a local luthier that's going to be very similar in looks to this one - minus the pickup rings and with an all rosewood neck. Definitely no pickguard!

If it were mine, I would change the pickup rings to metal chrome and try to find a chrome pickup selector knob.
