Interesting Rarebird

I've been meaning to post some good pictures of this for a while.
Next run of nice days we have I'll take advantage of the sunshine for some better lighting.

This one is more transparent and less red than the one HLG posted a pic of.











The lower horn reminds me of the long-horn interceptors with the deep access cutout.

I love the beveled edges, gives a comfortable contoured feel when playing.



The upper strings don't quite align with the pole pieces at the bridge pickup.
I've thought about finding a pickup with the proper spacing but I don't really want to mess with history without some careful consideration and consultation with diehard G&L fanatics...what do you guys think?



There is another neck that was obviously made to go with her. It is unplayed , maybe someday I'll install it... no doubt it will look fantastic.

I'm guessing the humbuckers in these beasts are seymour duncans but I haven't opened the hood.


Both these guitars have 1991 birth dates.

I must say that if the G&L online store was selling "G&L" drool cups, I'd be in need of one right now.

The first rare beauty is stunning, with either neck. Without a doubt, the bevel and lower horn are shared with the 3rd style Interceptor (Longhorn) body. However, the upper part of the body is all ASAT/Tele. That guitar seems to put together a lot of great features, not to mention striking aesthetics. The view of the back of the body is quite strange looking, but I totally dig its asymetrical lines. Wild.

The Rampage is another great G&L. I think that Epiphone had tried that type of paintjob on some special edition Les Pauls. I believe it's been referred to as a "lightning bolt" finish, and was on some nuclear winter themed guitar or something. The G&L paint job looks a lot better than what I saw on the Epiphone.

Yes, thanks for the link. WOW is the word of the day. There have been quite a few posts about the "Holy Grail" G&L guitar and I think the striper wins that battle hands down. Not sure why it wasn't brought up but maybe it was and i missed it. It looks like it has sooo much more MOJO than a 1992 build might suggest. It was vintage right out the door on day one.

What other cool as hell guitars are you guys holding? Time for a time machine post in the porn section of these rare beauties.

Those are all Schaller bucker in your pics as were also used on the 2nd style X-body and later Interceptors with humbuckers. These Schaller pups are fairly easy to recognize due to the 4 screw height adjustment screws and the therefore rather odd pickup mounting ring.

Yes! Same as the Invader too. They are loud and "obnoxious"; I was playing one through my Boogie 5:25 and it was driving the preamp into clipping very easily. Great stuff.

BTW, Dale Hyatt had a very special relationship with Günther Schaller. That company made many part, sometimes very special parts, for G&L which you might find on test mules and early instruments of certain models.

That's what I love about my invaders, they can sound like a race car blowing up if you want them to. Certainly a fun guitar to play and get the aggression out with maximum MOJO. SCREAMING YELLOW ZONKERS!!! That's what I call them, well, not the red one but it keeps up just fine.
