Asat Special Custom Shop

Post by ccwhwy61 »

Am about to purchase an Asat Special with two humbuckers in it instead of MFD's. Is this a legitimate G&L Custom Shop instrument? Serial number on back of headstock reads CL03757. Thanks guys!

It would be an ASAT Deluxe, which is a standard production model, not a Custom Creations build, see: Production List of G&L Instruments (USA).
The serial number prefix "CL" indicates it was built in late 1997 or early 1998, see: Serial number significance.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for quick response! Owner claims this is a USA model, not a Tribute....any way to verify?? By the way....I am happy to say I already own an Asat Special and am hoping to add the above mentioned to rig. Just trying to make sure it is what it is being advertised as. Thanks for your help and information. Pictures are showing two Seymour Duncan pups and a four bolt neck plate.

Owner is correct that it is a USA model. See: Serial number significance, link provided in my earlier post.

Here's the G&L 1996-97 Catalog page:

Attn Craig: Is there any way you could tell me the neck radius and type of wood used for the body of this guitar? Owner sent a serial number of CLO3757 in most of his emails although the last one said CLO3737?? Maybe a typing error? Should come up as a 1997 Black Asat Special with black hardware and rosewood neck. Please let me know what you can find on this,.....thanks very much!

Hi, I might be able to clear some of this up, the guitar in question is mine and is discussed here (with pictures)

http://www.guitarsbyleo.com/FORUM/viewt ... 18&t=13360

and here

http://www.guitarsbyleo.com/FORUM/viewt ... 685#p91685

This thread is of interest to me as Im worried I might be accidentally 'mis-selling' the guitar as something it's not. I've been calling it an ASAT Special Custom but this thread suggests it might be a standard model Deluxe, I would hate to be falsely advertising a product.

Secondly the serial number is CL03757 but when Dave from G&L posted back info based on that serial he quoted it as CL03737 which is what I then copied and pasted to the user who initiated this thread...but that does make me wonder if Dave looked up the first or second serial...or was his reply just a typo

hope all that helps

First that guitar is gorgeous... wth sell a piece like that ? ^^

Then it doesn't look like a serial model... more like a custom order...

I've been out of town for about a week and am just catching up on the posts.

I did not connect that this was your guitar which I had Dave at G&L look up for you. I had look in our Registry and did not find serial number CL03757 registered.
I replied based upon ccwhwy61's description only as there was no photo included, so that is why I thought it was an ASAT Deluxe.

I see now that you registered it under CL03737. I have emailed Dave to make sure the information he provided was on the CL03757 serial number.
I will correct the registry entry after I hear back from Dave.

Stay tuned.

Appreciate that, I don't know when that typo creeped in but obviously spread to the registry then my sale listing.

That would be a 7 1/2" radius for G&L.
Still waiting to hear from Dave but if the specs detail has not changed, the body wood would be Alder. If it were Swamp Ash it would have been listed in the log.

I heard back from Dave and it was a typo on the serial number in his email. The description of the guitar remains the same:
completed on September 23, 1997 shows as ASAT Black RW 2 HUM BLK HW. That’s what the pic shows: an ASAT with two humbuckers, black hardware, rosewood board.

He also added that it was shipped to England.

So, the neck would be a #2 (1 5/8 inch nut width, 2 13/64 inch butt width, 7.5-inch radius) and the body wood is Alder.

Hope this helps.
