Two Unusual Serial Number Formats (BLnnnnn and G0nnnnnA) ...

Post by Craig »

Anyone know what the story is about these two unusual but apparently valid Serial Number formats?

They are only documented as valid formats in the G&L Registry FAQ.

BLnnnnn format

Here is a list of them from the G&L Registry:

http://www.guitarsbyleo.com/AUTOREG/int ... nter_fmt=1

G0nnnnnA format

There are four entries in the G&L Registry and seems to be 1993 build year only?:

G031532A Legacy
G031716A Legacy
G031777A Legacy
G031765A Legacy Special

Anyone know the history behind them?

Have not seen them before. The top entry for the listed BL S/N seems like a misread BC.

Interesting ...

I asked Dave McLaren about the G0nnnnnA format and he replied:
Hi Craig,

If I remember the story correctly, there were duplicates of some serial numbers in a run of stamped neck plates. The A is likely stamped here in the shop before being sent out to be powder coated. I found a page showing G031797A ASAT Sunburst MP #2 NV (no vibrato) completed on 5/25/93

Thanks, Craig.
