New Legacy - What string gauge?

Post by Jess1971 »

I just placed an order for a custom build G&L Legacy. Do you know what gauge strings the guitar will be set up with upon arrival? I did not get to specify on the order form an I didn't even think to asknow the dealer. I assume it will come with 10s, but figured I'd ask.

Thanks.

Cool. Thank you!

As much as I'm glad I finally took the step of custom ordering a new guitar, I don't think I can stand waiting two months for it to arrive!

Checkout the G&L Knowledgebase.
Also, when you get your guitar, you will also get a Custom Build Specification sheet which details all specifications, including string gauge and type.

We'd love to see your new Legacy, so please post some photos and also add it to our G&L Registry.

The waiting is the hardest part.

New USA custom build Legacy just arrived and I am digging it. I got it with a slim C neck, and it's awesome, exactly what I wanted. Finish is amazing and the guitar sounds great both plugged in and on its own Very resonant and well-crafted instrument. I had to lower the action slightly, but adjusting he truss rod and lowering the saddles, but otherwise it was great out of the box.

I didn't realize that when you get an HSS configuration, they install a coil tap switch between the volume know and the first tone knob. I think this is great, and I greatly prefer it to a push/pull pot.

The only thing I'm not entirely crazy about is the vintage style slotted tuners. I didn't know that G&L used these, and when I ordered, I don't think there were any options for tuners. Does G&L make any other regular modern tuners that I could possibly replace these with without drilling into my brand new guitar?

On the mini-toggle or push/pull feature, see: Are there any "off menu" G&L options?.

On the tuners, the standard tuner is non-locking but there is the option to order locking tuners. See: March 1, 2016-present G&L U.S. Specifications and Options.
If your current tuners are G&L standard (look at the Custom Build Specification sheet that came with your instrument), you can purchase locking tuners from the G&L On-Line Store.

Hope this helps.

beautiful !! .... give the tuners a try before you discard them , I didn't like them at first but once you get used to it they are pretty nice , haven't snagged a finger since

Originally I wasn't fond of the slotted tuners on my ASAT, but really grew to appreciate them once I restrung the guitar a few times. No more finger or clothing snags. I think locking tuners have value on a vibrato equipped guitar as it would tend to stay in tune better. If you are not having a vibrato related tuning issue with your legacy, I suggest you give the slotted tuners a try for a couple sets of strings before you go to the expense of replacing the tuners. Beautiful guitar.
