Neck pickup in ASAT Classic Bluesboy (USA) Solid Body?

Post by kdl6769 »

I am seeing conflicting information on which model of neck PUP is in the ASAT Classic Bluesboy (USA). Depending on where I look, it's either a Seymour Duncan Seth Lover or a G&L P90 or a G&L A2S4248N Alnico II magnet humbucker. Has this changed over time? I'm in the market for a used Bluesboy, and would be grateful for any guidance on which of these variants I should be looking for. Thanks.

First of all, there are two different models: the ASAT Classic Bluesboy and the ASAT Classic Bluesboy 90. Up until Feburary 29, 2016, the ASAT Classic Bluesboy had a Seymour Duncan Seth Lover humbucker.
Beginning in March 1, 2016, the neck pickup was changed to a G&L A2S4248N Alnico II magnet humbucker, with the Seymour Duncan Seth Lover humbucker as an optional replacement. See, these posts in our
G&L Knowledgebase: July 1, 2015-Feb 29, 2016 G&L U.S. Specifications & Options and March 1, 2016-present G&L U.S. Specifications and Options. Also, see: Production List of G&L Instruments (USA),
List of Regular Production ASAT-style guitars (USA), List of pickups used in G&L guitars and Where can I hear and see samples of G&L instruments?

The ASAT Classic Bluesboy 90, came out in 2013 and has a G&L P-90 Alnico 5 neck pickup.

Hope this helps.

Many thanks, very helpful. Is there a consensus as to how the G&L A2S4248N Alnico II magnet humbucker differs from the Seymour Duncan Seth Lover, and why that change might have been made? I've read a few comments suggesting that the Seth Lover/single coil pairing is challenging and wonder if this change is intended to be an improvement, or is driven by commercial considerations (e.g. supply chain). Thanks again.
