New ASAT Classic Bluesboy 90

Post by Al Evans »

I've been wanting a Tele-type guitar for some time, but haven't been able to decide exactly what variety. Because I've got an S500 and an LB-100 bass, and love them both, I was already prejudiced towards an ASAT., but I couldn't settle on the specifics. Then my grandson got a Les Paul Special off Craigslist, with P90s. I played it once, and decided that an ASAT with a P90 in neck position would be just the thing. By coincidence, I ran across this one, for sale brand new at a very attractive price.

Shortly thereafter, it was in my happy hands. It is awesomely enjoyable to play. It seems likely to become one of my favorite instruments ever.

Sorry about the quality of the images. I has been a number of years since I last took pictures of shiny black things! :D

Very nice indeed! Definitely some serious G&L Porn!!!.
It's got the pickguard delete option and the model name delete headstock option, too.

Please do add this to our G&L Registry.

Hi Al,

She's a beauty, thanks for sharing! :alright:

I see this is yer second post so welcome to the ol' GLDP as well. :greet: Jump in often and send tone report on the ASAT after playing more.

Don't forget, you can never have too many ASAT's.

Nice! I have been thinking about getting this model.

They also started making the Bluesboy 90 in a semi-hollow recently but I haven't seen a demo of that variation. I am curious as to how it might vary from the solid body.

Thanks, guys!

I have already added this guitar to the registry. As for the tone... Well, so far, I haven't found any way to make it sound bad! It even sounds good unplugged (which, to me, is always a good sign in a solid-body guitar).

This is the first Tele-type guitar I've had, so I'm sort of twisting the knob and flipping the switch at random, looking for sounds. So far, great tone everywhere I look, and a few sounds I've been searching for without success on every electric guitar I've had.

I'm really loving this one. I've had a good number of nice instruments -- this is only the third guitar I've felt like this about, and the first electric.

Thanks for registering your guitar! I notice that it has the Galaxy Black test color and I checked the online listing of G&L Prototype Guitars, but did not see yours in the list.
There is another one just like yours (S/N CLF071756, Date Completed: October 6, 2014). I have sent an email to Dave McLaren to find out the history on your guitar and
to find out if Galaxy Black is now available as a standard or premier finish.

Here's the description on the CLF07156 prototype, which likely applies to yours as well:
ASAT Classic Bluesboy 90

Serial Number: CLF071756

Date Completed: October 6, 2014

Description: Galaxy Black, pickguard deleted, model logo deleted, silver border G&L logo, full matching painted neck, rosewood fingerboard.

Purpose: Dave McLaren recalls, "In the mid-to-late '80s, G&L made many instruments with full matching necks. Some of us here, especially me,
have had a thing for this look so we decided to build a few instruments and let the idea sink in. At the time this is written, February 2015,
we've not decided whether to, or how exactly to offer this option. However, we've had our fun and the point has been made. The full matching neck may
someday become an option, but there will be quite a bit of sussing out to do before we get there. This guitar has another twist, as it's painted in Galaxy Black,
a color we were developing two years before (see prototype CLF066126 of November 16, 2012). At the time this is written, Galaxy Black has not been introduced. "
As soon as I hear back from Dave, I will post his reply.

Hope this helps.

Cool! The build sheet for mine is dated 9/18/2015. I've played it enough already that I had to change the strings yesterday. It has found a happy home. I am still raving about it. Whoever built it done good. :happy0065:

I did hear from Dave:
I think we did a few to test, but the color is not available.
