Asat Special with humbuckers

Post by ccwhwy61 »

Own an Asat Special with those great MFD's and will never let it go, but am looking to add one more guitar to rig and would like to have one with a good set of humbuckers. Just something to fill the void not covered by the MFD's if ya know what I mean. Pretty overwhelmed by the many options out there. Blues, Blues/rock genre. Looked at the Asat Deluxes, but am leaning towards a set with a little more punch ( if that"s the right way to describe it). Any suggestions? And no......I won't buy a Les Paul......G&L all the way!!! Thanks guys!

How about a F-100? You can get it with MFDs, SD , or EMG iirc.

Been a while since you posted, but figured I'd chime in since I think we play a comparable genre of music.

If you're looking tribute line, I'd go with either the Ascari GTS, Fallout, or the Ascari GT-90 primarily. They all handle various amounts of dirt, fuzz, and effects and can all be had for reasonable prices. Plus they all clean up well for rhythm and stand out for riffs. All are good options. You could try out the Comanche as well. That really overdrives amps, but is more an acquired taste, while the other 3 options are a bit more instantly gratifying.

Side note: I'm intrigued by the F-100. Just realized it existed and am now wondering why it isn't more popular or widely available (same goes for the G-200)? Unless there are substantial costs associated with manufacturing them, feels like G&L would sell a ton of those, particularly if they stuck them on a Tribute model. People love MFDs and G&L has been producing more and more humbucking equipped guitars. Why not revive both lines for the Tribute series? Just a thought.

I replaced my bridge MFD pickup with a NOS Bill Lawrence L-550. It smokes. Made a pickguard for it. Hadn't put it down since.

I just purchased an ASAT Deluxe ii tribute series (with 2 humbuckers) and I am very impressed with the quality and sound. It plays just as well, if not better, than my USA Legacy. I probably wont be using my Les Paul (Heritage H150) much any more. This thing gives be all the growl and overdrive I need without the sound getting too heavy. Plus it has no maple top, so it is very light.
