Welcome to our site!
Please post some photos of your bass, because it does not exist without them.
To post photos, see:
Tutorial: Posting photos.
From your description, what you bought is a Tribute Series M-2500. The Tribute Series is G&L's import line which are manufactured in Indonesia.
Post the serial number and you should be able to tell from the first four digits when it was built. (Tribute Series S/N format is YYMM#####). See:
Serial number significance.
Regarding the demo, if it's the one on the G&L website, Ed is playing a US version in Cherryburst finish. This same demo is used for both the Tribute Series M-2500 and US M-2500 Specification pages.
The Tribute Series models do not come with a case and it is listed on MF's web page as such (Case sold seperately).
The case candy should be a set of allen wrenches and the warranty card.
G&L does not have owner's manuals with any of their instruments. The Custom Specification sheet is only provided on the the US models.
Go to the
Tribute Series M-2500 web page for details on the specifications.
Also, on G&L's main website, you can find
M-2000 / M-2500 - controls diagram located in the
G&L Schematic and Wiring Diagrams page.
Hope this helps.
Thank you for the welcome.
Ok I'll give it a go with a pic.
I thank you for the useful info. I was aware that this bass did not come with a case and also ordered one to take care of that situation. The only thing I wasn't sure of was whether the case I ordered would work. It works perfectly.
As for the paper work/case candy thing, if the only paperwork that comes with this bass is the warranty card, it wasn't their either. I am a little surprised they didn't include at least a operating description of the electronics. I am not unfamiliar with a system like this as I have several other guitars with a like system. However, with your link to this info, this issue should take care of itself.
As for Musicians Friend, I called them to find out about this subject and how I ended up with a color option not available on their site. He had no answer for the color combination or how I ended up with something they don't have. When ordering from them, the item usually comes from their KC location but, digging a little deeper, this bass was sent from Salt Lake City, Utah. His explanation was their affiliation with Guitar Center (duh!) and that's probably where it came from. With this conversation, I surmised that the person I was talking to was pretty much clueless about my inquiry but, it's not his fault. I don't think MF has a good 'paper trail' system in place to track this stuff. At the end, they removed the extra cost for shipping as the shipping date was missed and cut 25 bucks off the cost for my troubles.
I did discover the name of the color combo for this bass as being 'cherry burst' as you mention in your post. I'm still a little mystified that it doesn't come up as an option even on G&L's site unless I'm missing something somewhere.
As for the serial number and date of build, I was pretty sure the first few numbers were the build date and you confirmed this with your reply. It was built Sept. of '15 so, it is new.
Anyway, I'll be checking the links you provided for further info and if I find a better way to post a pic, I throw one up. Thanks
Edited to add: I checked out the link for the controls but, I didn't find any explanation as to how this system is shut off when not in use. My guess would be being unplugged from the cable cuts the system. Is that correct?
