So I was playing my late '90s ( I think, has the three bolt neck plate) Classic the other day and decided I am no longer a fan of the P/U combination on it, Twang King bridge and stock MFD in neck. They seem mis-matched, both power wise and tonally. I had thought about getting a Twang King neck, as it has many followers, but I actually like the MFD in the neck. I know it is not a classic Tele neck sound, but I still like it. I do wish it could be a bit more clear but in general I like the slightly more aggressive than a tele neck sound.
I know this is subjective but I was looking for some ideas for a bridge pickup that plays well with the MDF in the neck of the Classic.
Some thoughts were putting an original MDF back in ( I bought it with the DiMarzio). Maybe a Barden Danny Gatton, or a Bill Lawrence of some type. I am looking for a similar theme to the neck, a bit more aggressive than the classic tele sound, but still with the bite, so nothing too crazy.
If you have/had a ASAT Classic with the MDF in the neck and something else, I love to hear what you have/had and your opinion. I play a bit of country, classic rock, and some Jazz, both with and without a pick when playing the country, blues and jazz. Usually with a pick for Rock 'n Roll.
Thanks for any suggestions, ideas, opinions, etc !

Re: Asat Classic with MFD in neck and Twang King in bridge
Your descriptions all point towards fitting an MFD at the bridge. Like a Tele with some more Grrr! - like the neck only more aggressive. Expect to use the tone control more than with a Fender (you'll come to like this).
If you have the inclination, while you're wiring you could experimentally leave a couple of wires hanging out, simply connected across the bridge pup, and try a small capacitor connected to them. Try values like .0047 or .0033uF and see if you like the option, then consider installing a pull-pot to enable this (just on the back pup). It's a nice Esquire-type option to have, different from just the tone knob.

Re: Asat Classic with MFD in neck and Twang King in bridge
Thanks for that info.
Looking around the internet I see some other pickups that offer Tele type tones with a bit more oomph that I had not considered. I like the ideas of restoring the ASAT to the original equipment bridge, but just have to ask if there is a pickup that covers the sonic territory the MFD does but better in certain ways? Again this is subjective and I am just looking for opinions. A friend who doesn't have direct experience suggested Don Mare may have a few models or Harmonic Design Vintage Plus.
Just double checking my options, if nothing else comes up I'll track down a MFD for the bride and attempt NickHornes wiring ideas !
Thanks.
