The place to discuss, post photos, video, and audio of the G&L products (US instruments, stomp boxes, etc.) produced after 1991, including the amps & gear we use with them.

Legacy HB USA - Help with blank neck plate and saddle

Post by muclemente »

Hey everyone,

I'm in the process of acquiring an used Legacy HB USA.
The seller's post has pictures of the guitar and some authenticity certificates from G&L.

However, by looking at the pictures, I have noticed that the neck plate doesn't have the G&L logo stamped onto it. I've searched around here and most of the USA guitars do have the logo in there.

Also, a friend of mine also told me that the saddles are not from a USA model but a Tribute model:

This friend told me that it may be a tribute body with a USA neck. But I really don't know what to think.

I would like to know your opinions on this one.
Thanks in advance!

The body is definitely a USA body [pickguard (number of screws), body color (USA only)]. As far as the saddles, you cannot tell by just looking at them. Both Tribute and USA saddles are chrome plated.
The USA saddles are brass, while the Tribute saddles are die casted.

Everything that I see, except the neck plate, looks to be original Fullerton factory built. The neck plate may have come from the supplier for the USA neck plates without the G&L logo etched by mistake
and not noticed by the factory.

If you like the guitar, go for it. I would not worry about the neck plate.

My $0.02.

Thanks a lot for the input!

Yeah, I am going to see it this weekend. If I like it, I'll try not to worry about the neck plate and get it! :)

Check the spec sheet that came with the guitar to see if it matches up.

fwiw ... the blank neck plate would bother me if the time came to resell it later.

Thanks guys!

I've asked for a scan of the specifications sheet. Will check it out when he posts it.
I have seen that some neck plates have bad pressing on them and the logo is half erased. IDK if that may be the case, but I'll be sure to see each detail the guitar has in person.

Although I have no idea what to check for physically to know if it's legit or not...

The seller also told me that the tremolo arm was lost.

Do you guys have any info if the arm needs to be of a specific G&L model?

G&L sells them on their On-Line Store. Here's the link to the one you need: VIBRATO ARM - G&L DUAL FULCRUM (CURRENT USA AND ALL TRIBUTE SERIES).

Thanks! Hope it doesn't take too long to ship here in Brazil.
