Uncommon SB-2 neck profile and questions

Post by LowEZ »

I have two SB-2 basses, both purchased used. The one in question has a body stamp of August 2005 and it's a 3-bolt. It has a 1 11/16 nut width, 7.5" radius, position markers top and side between the 20th and 21st frets and has heavy Hipshot tuners. On the heel it seems to state that it's a #5, but I have never heard of a #5 offered in this time frame.

So, was this a custom order or was this neck profile an available option in 2005? Also, shouldn't there be some sort of metal plate where the tilt adjustment screw meets the heel of the neck? It seems there is just a hole but I will admit that I didn't peer into the hole looking for something metallic and I never compared it to my other SB-2 which is a 3-bolt from 2003.

Thanks for any information.
