As I'm known to do on occasion, I developed a fixation on a certain guitar recently - the G&L SC-1. For a solid week while I was visiting Portland, OR on business recently, I read every thread and watched every video I could find of one of these rare guitars in action. Information is out there about these, but few it seems have really been able to experience one first hand.
Why I found these guitars so appealing, I'm not quite sure. Even as someone who hangs out primarily on the neck pickup of whatever guitar he's playing, this Esquire-esque guitar had a cool simplicity that I found really appealing.
On the day I was due to fly back home to NYC and with a few hours to kill, I decided to visit a music store in the area and get some playing in (which I hadn't been able to do for a week). I walked into Old Town Music and wouldn't ya know it - right there, hanging on the wall to greet me, was a black SC-1.
Well, I wasn't planning on buying a guitar while I was in PDX, but after spending a solld hour putting it through its paces, I was kind of addicted to it. The price wasn't low, but it was reasonable, and so I made the complete snap decision to buy it and somehow fly home with it that day.
The salesman knocked a few bucks off for me since I didn't want the case (it wasn't the original) and threw in one of those wedge-shaped Gibson gig bags instead (which I quite like). It made the trip back home in one piece - it does seem quite indestructible anyway - and here she is!

cool guitar! sounds like it was your destiny.
Joe Strummer would have liked that one, perhaps with a few stickers.
enjoy!
