Very nice.
How does Monkeypod compare in weight to Swamp Ash or Alder?
What is the finish on the first picture, the bass guitar?
Thanks in advance.

Here's the detail on that LB-100 bass:lefty_major wrote:Very nice.

LB-100 in Natural Satin over Monkeypod (East Indian Walnut), 3-ply black guard, rosewood board, Clear Satin neck finish.
I'm not sure how it compares to Swamp Ash or Alder in weight, though.

That limba cap on ash looks very cool. My favorite G&L is always the last one I see.
If monkeypod is anything close to regular black walnut, my guess is that it is quite denser and heavier than ash or alder would be.

I see an ASAT Classic Bluesboy with a monkeypod OLS body on the current Factory Inventory and it weighs in at 7.7lbs.fianoman wrote:If monkeypod is anything close to regular black walnut, my guess is that it is quite denser and heavier than ash or alder would be.
And there's an ASAT Classic Bluesboy with Swamp Ash OLS body which also weighs in at 7.7lbs.ASTCB_MONKEY POD FROST_RW_ _BWB_LTSN_OLS_7.7 7.7 1 CLF075460

This one was posted on G&L's facebook page on Nov. 18. Here's the text posted with it:jmontgomery wrote:Black Limba Top Cap on Swamp Ash.

What exactly is "empress" wood? I have seen it other places, and it looks a lot like swamp ash, but I have heard it is a bit softer.

Here some quotes on the G&L facebook page regarding Empress wood:tbonesullivan wrote:What exactly is "empress" wood? I have seen it other places, and it looks a lot like swamp ash, but I have heard it is a bit softer.
the wood we bought was grown in the US and we bought it from one of our regular suppliers. We're not dinging anyone hard on these;
price in a store will probably a few bucks more than the same guitar in swamp ash.
The trick is getting nice wood, selected and matched. As with alder, ash, mahogany etc., there is a range of quality. We don't know when we may able to score this quality again,
but we'd sure like to.
Hope this helps.Tone is a bit like basswood, strong lower mids but seems to have more top end sparkle like swamp ash. Super lightweight.
