Re: locking tuners for lefty
Check out the Schaller website to find the right model. The pin should be in exactly the same location for the locking version of your non-locking tuners. It has a lot of useful information about dimensions. And they offer them on sale on that site too, although I think you can get them cheaper. BTW, if the pin location is mirrored on your leftie guitar, it might be that you'd have to buy 2 3+3 sets.

Re: locking tuners for lefty
I was looking for lefty Schaller locking tuners a few years back, finding the exact model / part number is not straight forward at all. There should be a thread on the forum somewhere about this exact issue.

Sperzel's are pretty straight forward: http://www.sperzel.com/models_colors.html

Re: locking tuners for lefty
Here are some threads I fund doing a search. One of the mentions Stew-Mac as a potential source.
Schaller Locking Tuners Retrofit Issues
G&L knowledge freaks please help! and specifically these 2 exchanges.
The What tuners are used on G&L guitars (USA models)? only shows the right-handed model I believe.
Hope this helps,

From my experience, it's a toss up between Schaller & Sperzel. In regards to retrofit issues, Sperzel's have been unchanged from the beginning; they fit every time. You just have to match post heights...

Re: locking tuners for lefty
These should be the right model: M6 Locking Pin unless your Legacy is old enough to have the G&L-branded mini-Schallers, in which case, there is no direct retrofit for locking ones. I tried to Google up a good deal on the left-handed model # for you, but didn't find much out there. Stew-Mac doesn't seem to make any mention of handedness, so I'm guessing they're all right-handed.

Re: locking tuners for lefty
A couple of questions:
What was appealing to you about the Hipshot tuners?
And, I noticed that you always refer to "G&L" as "G@l". I am wondering why this is?
BTW, I have contacted one of my G&L contacts to find out the model/part numbers for both Sperzel and Schaller Left handed Locking tuners that they use
at the G&L factory. I will post this info as soon as I hear back.
Please keep us informed as to how the Hipshot tuners installed and work for you. And who did you purchase them from?

Re: locking tuners for lefty
Hi I like the look of the hipshot tuners.
I did not realize I was typing G&L wrong, thanks for pointing that out to me.
I will post pictures when I am done modifying my legacy here is what I'm doing to it
First I will seat the frets that have raised in the middle, Then I will do a fret Level and polish.
Then I will add the new tuners which I bought off eBay from Sporthitech
Next I will add a lefty 500k volume pot.
Then I am replacing the humbucker and two single coils with a Dimarzio AT-1 in the bridge, Dimarzio Cruiser in the middle, and a Dimarzio Fast Track 1 in the neck
All the pickups and knobs are going to be white, Right now my legacy is all black with chrome parts..

Wait, another one?! Frets sprouting in the middle isn't too common an issue in my guitar owning/swapping experience. Is it possible these are getting over-radiused at the factory?vaughn44 wrote:...First I will seat the frets that have raised in the middle...

Re: locking tuners for lefty
Although you've already purchased the Hipshots, Sperzel also makes an open-backed, locking tuner that doesn't require drilling... I've ordered the closed back's only because I'm replacing non-locking Sperzel's with the holes already drilled.

Re: locking tuners for lefty
I think so. It is only the pin hole that separates the two. If you check the Sperzel homepage, you can see the open backed locking tuner with no pin. I'll let others chime in for confirmation...

Re: locking tuners for lefty
Hi I am having trouble with my neck pickup and moderate distortion. The low E string around the 12 fret and beyond sounds like crap
I noticed it with the stock single coil and thought maybe it was just the pickup. So I put a fast track in its place and its worse.
Then I bought a area 61 and it doesn't sound good either.
My humbucker in the bridge sounds good in that area.
My question is does the ptb system cut more treble from a pickup than a normal tone control?

Sounds like you have a case of "stratitis" ... a warble or fluctuation of the strings caused by the pickup magnets being too close to the strings. Especially noticeable when the neck pickup is too close to the strings. Lower your pickups and it should go away.vaughn44 wrote:Hi I am having trouble with my neck pickup and moderate distortion. Re: locking tuners for lefty
+1 This is especially likely if the problem worsens as you play higher up the neck, which puts the stings ever closer to the pickups. Humbuckers have a weaker magnetic pull and can be adjusted much closer to the strings, so that's likely why you don't notice it with the bridge pickup -- that and the string's vibrating arc is a fair bit smaller near the bridge than it is around the neck pickup (around the 2nd octave), so there's less for a magnet to interfere with. Some folks like/tolerate/ignore this phenomenon, for instance, SRV had the pickups jacked up way higher than I'd ever recommend. Personally, that weird growly overtone from magnet interference always bugged the <censored word> out of me and I inevitably adjust the pickups down to the point where it goes away (literally plucking notes while lowering it until it stops happening, or almost stops). My old SC-3's pickups only adjust down so far, so I even went so far as to kick the neck way back with the micro-tilt (thanks, Leo!) and raise the bridge high enough that it probably wouldn't work so well as a vibrato if I was inclined to use it as such (I'm not):SouthpawGuy wrote: Sounds like you have a case of "stratitis" ... a warble or fluctuation of the strings caused by the pickup magnets being too close to the strings. ^This doesn't really show it too well (darned black guitar!), but hey, guitar pics, right?

Re: locking tuners for lefty
Thanks for helping. I did lower it some and I hit the bright switch on my amp. which helped a lot. My neck pickup isn't matching my Bridge pickup very good I may have to get a higher output
