Help id'ing an ASAT please :-)

Hi all,

Am new to G&L guitars but like the look of this ASAT very much, wandering whether it's in fact an ASAT classic custom rather than ASAT classic as the ad states. Looks like a bevelled back (?) and a premium finish?

It's been advertised for a few months at that price, so am wandering whether it's overpriced. Can't find any for comparison!

Yes, it is one of the original ASAT Classic Customs.

I too bought one that was advertised as an ASAT Classic. I would say buy it without further hesitation. Mine is a lefty version of the red one

I do notice that it does not have the Black Tolex case which the ASAT Classic Custom came with.
Also, check the difference in Retail Prices for the ASAT Classic and ASAT Classic Custom.

Very happy to say I am now a G&L owner and couldn't be happier (apart from the tinnitus but that's another story!). Guitar is mint, there is literally not a scratch on the thing and it sounds wonderful. Thanks for the advice and see you on the forum soon!

Quick couple of questions! Is the radius 7.5" and is the finish poly or nitro?

7.5" and the finish is poly. My own doesn't feel much like a typical tele with a 7.5" radius as the neck profile is different and the frets are larger.

Thanks for the info. I'm used to a 20" radius so it's quite different but in a good way, if that makes sense! Can't get over how great it sounds through the amp. Happy days!

I'm late to the party. Congrats on the ASAT Classic Custom. Mine is close to the top of my list of favorite G&Ls:

A couple of years ago I sat back and listened to my neighbor play each of my G&Ls, one after the other. The ASAT Classic Custom was far and away his favorite. When he tried my G-200 last year, his comment was that nothing tops the ASAT Classic Custom.

Thanks Ken, you have a fine guitar there! I've just had mine back from a setup, now it plays as well as it sounds!

Have realised that the case is indeed not the original, as pointed out to me earlier in the thread. No biggie though, still a G&l case at least.

Interestingly my 3 yr old has declared it "her" guitar, as she likes the pearloid scratchplate!

I'm curious, are we talking about 1997 ASAT models in all of these posts? I just bought a 1997 ASAT Three but could not find many references to this year or my model. The price sheet above might just shed some light to it being the ASAT Three mentioned. The sales sheet pictures do not show one like mine though.

Also, drjho7, did you reverse the switch plate on your guitar? I have seen previous examples and wonder how hard it is to do. Thenls.

That's an ASAT III alright. Mine is also from the late '90s with a three bolt neck in blue burst finish.

It has a saddle lock bridge, like an ASAT Special, and pickups from an S500 which are larger than ASAT Classic pickups.

Mine has a five way switch. I think some also had a mini switch between the volume and tone pots to combine the neck and bridge pickups.
