Would Craig or any of the experts on the forum have any additional information on my 2004 ASAT Classic S....signed by Steve Miller..? I had this listed recently on Reverb... the neck carve is bigger than I like, but it is too sweet and I am going to try and adjust. So I took it down.
See pics farther below...details:
-- the neck pocket date is June 24, 2004. (in person, the date stamp is definitely Jun versus Jan). The G&L website states that the first 2004 run ended in March...with some 'one offs' later. I was thinking that this might be one of those(?)
-- the neck appears to be Straight Grain Maple with a 12" radius...which matches the neck specs put on the 2007 run (versus the 2004 Birdseye Maple/7.5" radius).
-- the sticker on the case (which references the serial number) appears to refer to the color as 'Amber'...Steve Miller actually called it 'Poison Oak'... in person (versus the pics), it does look look slightly different than the Honeyburst.
I am just curious if anybody might know something more about this guitar...it is really a sweet one!!
Thanks, Steve.

Nothing more than what I posted the first time: http://www.guitarsbyleo.com/FORUM/viewt ... 726#p85726.

Well, Craig...that is what I get for not returning to that thread to read subsequent posts after my last one there. Boy, wouldn't that have been helpful. So.....a belated thank you!! --SteveCraig wrote:Nothing more than what I posted the first time: http://www.guitarsbyleo.com/FORUM/viewt ... 726#p85726.

Thanks, Jos... and, yes.. that is where I learned of the March 2004 end of the first 100 pieces...and that the 2004 run had birdseye maple neck with 7.5 radius. Mine (dated Jun 2004) has the the Straight Grain Maple with 12" radius...which is associated with the 2007 run noted on that page. And, therein lay some of my confusion on what I had...yowhatsshakin wrote:I also assume you are familiar with this Custom Creations Department page on the G&L website.

Wouldn't something from a CCD run have the special decal on the back of the headstock? Would the regular serial number decal and lack of CCD markings indicate that it was a special order one-off?

The CCD decal on the back of the headstock was only introduced in 2007 on the Limited Edition models, with the F-100 Return Edition and Phyllis Model 'Blondie' released that year being the first. Initially, tthey were not used for the Special Build models of that year. My July 2007 Special Edition Classic 'S' has only the S/N on the headstock, whereas my December 2007 ASAT Classic Bluesboy with spalted maple top does have a small CCD logo and rank number in the series on the headstock.KenC wrote:Wouldn't something from a CCD run have the special decal on the back of the headstock? In Craig's kindly included information, Dave McLaren stated: "I see that as ASAT Classic S Semi-Hollow Honeyburst, no f-hole, pearl guard, maple neck with Vintage Gloss, white middle cover shipped on 7/29/2004 to Sunburst Guitar Gallery in Ketchum, Idaho. I don’t see anything about Steve Miller."Craig wrote:Nothing more than what I posted the first time: http://www.guitarsbyleo.com/FORUM/viewt ... 726#p85726.
I do know that Steve Miller had a home in Ketchum, Idaho ... where the Sunburst Guitar Gallery was located. A logical guess is that Steve bought the guitar there. Most know he was a huge collector...or at least buyer.
