Interesting ASAT/Legacy hybrid

Post by cho »

Note: This is not my ad or an endorsement.

There is an interesting G&L on the Los Angeles craigslist with an ASAT body, Legacy neck, Classic bridge pickup and MFD neck pickup. Thought I would share:

The body and pickups look like they are from a model in production between 2002 and 2013: the ASAT Classic Custom. That year that model was superseded by the ASAT Classic Bluesboy 90. And yes, of course the neck is from a Legacy, easily verifiable since the headstock shape flares out further on the treble side.

So I would say the model is mislabeled and the claim that it was specially created by the CCD is doubtful. Looks like the seller read up on the Savannah Collection ASAT Classic Bluesboy 90 and ran with it.

Also, the Custom Creations department would not have put the Legacy model decal on the headstock. It looks to me like a previous/current owner
did a neck swap.

I agree with both Jos and Tim, too.

If you can get the serial number from the neck, I will see if I can get one of my contacts at G&L to look it up.

The seller said the serial number is CLF15391. I checked the registry, and it is there, as a Legacy! There must have been a swap with another body at some point....

Or they (incorrectly) went with the decal on the headstock. Easy mistake to make.

The registry shows it being a sunburst legacy, so definitely not the same body. Looks like a Legacy neck on a Classic Custom body. Interesting that the body is a slab body, not contoured. Is that how all the Classic Custom ASATs were?

I heard back from Dave:
Hi Craig,

CLF15391 shows up as a Legacy in 3-Tone Sunburst, pearl guard, rosewood board, tinted gloss neck finish. It was shipped to Fat Sound Guitar in Cary, NC on 3/28/00.

Got nothing else on that Legacy or how its neck ended up on another body.

Thanks, Craig.
