price increase across the board from g&l?? why..
got this in my inbox...bummer
Thanks again for being a part of our G&L event. I hope you enjoyed it!
I wanted to let you know that G&L is undergoing a signficant price increase right now. Everything is going up about 10-15%.
Because we had been planning this event before the price increase was announced, the nice fellas at G&L are allowing us to quote 2014 pricing through August 7th. After the 7th, we cannot honor the 2014 prices that we've been quoting on custom orders.
So if you're considering picking up a G&L, I'd encourage you to act soon!
Also, if you're short on cash, talk to our guys about using affirm for your purchase! With Affirm, you can spread out payments over the course of a whole year! Play now. Pay later!
And remember, if you're one of the first 47 to custom build a guitar with us during this promo, you'll get two great Leo Fender books, one hand signed by Leo's wife - Phyllis Fender!
I hope that's helpful info for you,
Cheers,
Ben Werlin

I wonder if they are holding 2014 pricing for all dealers until this date or just or MSL?

Yup I got this too. Since I recently ordered my G&L from MSL, I'm going to make sure this is in effect for my order.

Price increases shouldn't be surprising.

I got this email as well. It struck me that the dealer was taking advantage of the price increase to try to move some inventory. However, I didn't see the increase as being that significant. 10-15% to the suggested retail price doesn't seem that far off, especially when you can buy them for less. If I was G&L, I might be a bit pissed at the dealer for characterizing it as signficant.

G&L also just announced a ton of custom neck options. It seems to me that a custom ordered G&L is still a great value even with the price increase. There is a cut off point where consumers will seek out a smaller boutique builder with hopes of having a more specific say in how there build will turn out. If G&L continues to offer more options like they have recently done with their necks then I feel the price increase is fine. They have come a long way since the McLarens took over and really build a quality instrument.
I agree that an increase in price for anything sucks but that is business.

Dave, you know the address to send me a guitar.

10-15% in one year is. But, G&L has yet to really take a plunge onto the boutique train, though I'd rather they do it by introducing a "high end" line, they could then take advantage of being able to sell the working man's guitar at a wealthy man's price point, which was contrary to the entire purpose of guitars Leo designed. But, that's the current reality and it would be neat if they took the "rustic" line a step further. Lots of folks in the guitar world will believe anything, especially if it costs more money. For what they currently offer the prices are certainly competitive across the board. But, that's why I ordered one! This was the first gear purchase I've made in a LONG time where I knew I couldn't flip it for as much as I paid for it let alone having to take a big hit if I ever had to flip it. If my ASAT was 100 dollars more, honestly, I probably would not have bitten the bullet simply due to resale value.

10 to 15 percent in one year is not much at all ....... price a Fender or Gibson if you want to make yourself feel better

Exactly what I was thinking! Even with the 10-15% increase, it's still a deal.Fumble fingers wrote:10 to 15 percent in one year is not much at all ....... price a Fender or Gibson if you want to make yourself feel better

Agreed. It's amazing to me that people still pay for an MIA Fender when a custom G&L costs about the same. I suppose some people just don't have the patience for a custom built guitar.

You get to choose color scheme, model, radius, finish, neck contour and fretboard + perhaps wood type on currently offered designs and waiting is hard to do even more so when the guitar is sight unseen in the first place. If you like, you can see if they'll go a little deeper to do various pickup/bridge options too. MIA Fender lineup has how many different guitar models with how many options? Well, a boatload, on top of higher/quicker resale as well as most models being in the same ball park price wise before this price increase. One being better than the other is subjective. You can't go to a big box store and play 10 of them to see which one is your favorite, which is an experience in and of itself.
I, for one enjoy/prefer the differences in how most G&L's are designed. Full neck depth at 22 frets so you have a deeper pocket, fantastic + unique pickups & wiring schemes, GREAT bridge designs, incredibly stable necks, hefty tuners, large well-leveled frets, and a budget line that puts most other bolt on budget guitars to shame. Well, puts most bolt-ons in general to shame.
But, that said, if you're used to the "dark side" I can see where the larger tuners, wider frets, larger inlays/dots, thicker bodies and hefty bridges might make the guitars seem bulkier than they really are. It sounds silly, but if G&L put out more standard necks with a more narrow wire (6150?), smaller inlays/dots, the new 9.5"er, and a quality but more petite tuner where people can play them you'd see more folks jump on the bandwagon because they'd be able to notice how nice(r) the rest of the guitar is by comparison without it feeling/looking significantly different from what they're used to. This way you don't sacrifice any real design changes but make the guitar seem slightly more accessible. Just a thought.
