Blue or White?
Ok so I'm supposed to be placing my order tomorrow for my custom ASAT Alnico. The problem is I just can't decide on a color. I know I want a vintage tint gloss neck & a 1-ply white guard. But I'm torn between Himalayan Blue and Vintage White. It's tough to get a good sense of the actual color looking at pictures on a monitor. Some look great, some look ehhh.
Which one would you go with and why?
Thanks!

Re: Blue or White?
Just my opinion, but I had a vintage white with white pick guard. It was beautiful but boring. I changed the pick guard.
I liked it better, was still boring. Might have been cooler with mint or cream.
The blue will be outstanding.
My spanish copper blues boy was ok, but I love it more and more everyday. I think the blue will be the same.
If it were me, I'd get a transparent blue or orange
Just my thoughts

Re: Blue or White?
Thanks for the input. I'm leaning towards the Himmy blue. I was also kicking around the lesser-known colors like Honey w/ cream or Lemondrop w/ white pearl.
I keep looking at these pics which do it for me. But then these pics are pretty nice too.
I originally wanted Sonic Blue w/ cream, but that color is getting too common. I want something lesser done, but still classy & great to look at.

Re: Blue or White?
Ok so here are the choices. All of these are with a vintage tint neck:
1. Himmy blue w/ 1-ply white
2. Vintage white w/ 1-ply white
3. Tangerine w/ 1-ply white
4. Honey w/ cream
5. Lemondrop w/ white pearloid
Which number? Thanks again guys!

Re: Blue or White?
I forgot to mention, that vintage white with the white pick guard didn't work for me, the white pick guard is too white and the vintage white is more like like banana cream. So, if you are doing vintage white, I would do cream with it.
White is too white, just like painting the ceiling of your house.
My first choice would be honey, second tangerine.

Lemon drop with Honey hanging in there very close.
Or, just get one of each so you can have one set standard and one set for slide! Always an enabler!

Ok I think I've narrowed it down:
-Honey with cream
-Whiskey with cream
Who wins?

From those two, my choice would be for the whiskey finish.Nubs wrote:Ok I think I've narrowed it down:

I have my doubts about the honey finish with the vintage tint neck - might not be enough difference between the honey stain and vintage stains to separate them visually. Personally, I'd go for the light tint with any of the finishes, its just plain better - IMO of course.

Re: Blue or White?
I hear what you're saying. The only question I have is what the whiskey would look like with a vintage tint neck. Don't think I've seen one of those before. But on the other hand, visualizing it looks pretty spiffy.blargfromouterspace wrote:From those two, my choice would be for the whiskey finish.

Nubs,
Honey color for the guitar and whiskey in a jar (glass). "Whiskey in the Jar" is reference to a Thin Lizzy song, alas, play Whiskey in the Jar on a Honey colored Alnico ASAT.

Roger that. I know the Metallica cover the best. I'm leaning towards the honey & cream. How sweet would that be?sam wrote:Nubs,

Ehhhhhhhhhhh....
I think I'm going to go ahead with this style:
This combo looks outstanding IMO and just screams class & individuality. And it's also saying, "Hell yeah man!!"

Re: Blue or White?
It's a nice problem to have, isn't it?
An Asat Classic like that would look fantastic.
I had been about to vote for Lemondrop + Pearl, and also suggest Blonde (not Butterscotch) + white guard, as being white-like but characterful and classier. Could also be with pearl guard.
I'm pretty sure that Whiskey can only be had on the Jerry Cantrell.
There's also nowadays a lovely temptation / confusion available between Lemondrop and Honey, i.e. Vintage Natural.....
But love that blue!

Have you considered blonde ? It is very cool to see the grain of the wood through the finish, I don't have a blonde ASAT, but my late '90s Legacy is ...Nubs wrote:Ok so I'm supposed to be placing my order tomorrow for my custom ASAT Alnico. The actual colour is hard to catch in a photo, it's not as creamy as the first photo and not as white as the last one but somewhere in between.

Nice blonde!
Seeing the grain is quite different from white paint.
I really enjoy how my blonde / pearl Asat Z-3 looks; it has a sort of female vibe to it which I like!

Re: Blue or White?
Nubs - are you getting an ASAT Alnico or ASAT Alnico "S"?
The problem with picking colors is you'll change you mind a few days after you place the order! Beware that.
You can always order a different pickguard if you don't like the combo between it's color and the color of your guitar. I've done that before.

Re: Blue or White?
I have considered blonde, yes. There's nothing wrong with the color at all. In fact, I like it very much. I just don't think it works well with the vintage tint neck. And before you ask, yes I am set on the vintage tint neck. I love the color of it.
lefty, I'm getting an ASAT Alnico (left handed of course). And I must have flopped on colors a billion times before now, as you can see in this post.

Yeah, I think that's the color.
You talking about the Himmy Blue Alnico Stutz? Yeah that's nice indeed. Except mine will be lefty with a 1-ply white and vintage tint neck. It's gonna look even sexier than that one.

way cool.
Also, if you scroll down on that page, you'll see a vintage white with a white pick guard.

Re: Blue or White?
Yup I saw that one too. I still think that looks great. BTW I found the search tool on FB will filter your results by whatever you want. So in this example, I searched for Himalayan Blue:
Himalayan Blue search
It helps a bunch to see only the pics with a specific color instead of scrolling for days.

Re: Blue or White?
I must agree about blonde not suiting the vintage-tint neck, I'd forgotten that was your choice. Blonde needs something lighter.
Looks like you're getting zero'd in on that blue, which will look really great.

Looks I came in a day late, but just wanted to offer this picture, which has both my him. blue and vintage white guitars, so you can see them in the same lighting.

This was changed last year and was added to the Premier finishes list, see The Whiskey finish is now available on all instruments ....NickHorne wrote: I'm pretty sure that Whiskey can only be had on the Jerry Cantrell.
Hope this helps.

Good Luck, The finish will look better in person regardless of the color!
