USA M-2000, Violet Ice R&D Test

Post by GregMcMc »

I just purchased the M-2000, Violet Ice Bass shown on the G&L website under the "prototype" link. It shows this bass as serial number CLF60608. My question is how many of these M-2000 Violet Ice Basses were made? Is this a one of a kind that I just purchased?

From the description on the prototype page:
Purpose: Dave McLaren recalls, "This bass was built to explore possibility of a violet version of what would become our Black Ice finish. While we liked the look, it would have to wait for a while: we were thinking about introducing the black version of this finish later in the year."
It is likely that it was the only M-2000 built with that finish. I will asked Dave next week to get confirmation of my assumption.

BTW, here's the photo of it from the prototype page:

Yes, I did. Here is Dave's reply:
Hi Craig,

We made just that one, so yes, it’s one of a kind. Thanks, Craig.

Dave
Hope this helps.
