I seem to recall seeing this topic before, but never resulting in hard-and-fast information.
I hope the Forum won't mind if I resurrect it...
My G&L Asats (Classic BB, Special, Will Ray and Z-3) all have Tele-type control plates.
The BB, Special and Will Ray all have really nice plates, much thicker than regular Fender issue, and almost as thick as the pick guard. They a very nice finish, including the edges.
I am wanting to fit a mini-toggle into the (used) Bluesboy, whilst retaining the original plate for any possible resale. Also, once I find the source of G&L's nice thick plates, I want to replace the Z-3's plate, which for some reason is skinny like a Fender (from new), and not as likeable as the others.
I thought they might be Gotoh, but that's not it. The Gotoh (or what was sold to me as such) is thinner, and also its edges are quite rough, while the G&L original parts are well-polished all over.
Any clues as to where one can obtain the genuine article? Sooner or later, one of us must know.....

Re: Control plates for Asat Classic / Special / Z-3
Hi Nick,
I may have what you need. I have a chrome control plate which I bought off eBay years back. Its thick as and nicely chrome plated and is in fact a G&L plate tho I'm unsure of its year of manufacture… my guess is early 90's. Not sure whether you are aware of this or not but the length of the control plates changed a couple times once BBE took over. Email me with the specs of yours in cm and I'll measure the one I have. I recall that's its a bit shorter than the Leo-era ones.
Cheers,
KF

Hi KF
Thank you very much for your reply!
It might be couple of days before I can get to the BB and lift the plate to measure it properly; I'll get the measurements to you asap.
Best
Nick

I don't have the actual name of the supplier but this might help you narrow down the search: http://www.guitarsbyleo.com/FORUM/viewt ... 376#p42376.NickHorne wrote:I seem to recall seeing this topic before, but never resulting in hard-and-fast information.

If you do find a specific source please post the details.
