New G&L guy, Invader Plus here soon!
Hello all G&L folks! I'm anxiously waiting delivery to my home of my first custom G&L Invader plus guitar. I ordered it about 9 weeks ago...here are the details. Swamp ash body with blackburst finish, ( not my first choice more on that later). Hard maple neck, 1a profile with matching headstock, birdseye maple fingerboard and SS med jumbo frets. Graphtech nut, sperzel locking tuners, and the saddle lock bridge. No more out of tune if you break a string! So about the body finish, I asked the dealer if I could get it in the Black Ice finish. It looks awesome on swamp ash. G&L wouldnt budge, even after trying to offer more $$$. The irony is that the original lead time was 4-5 weeks, however I called 2 weeks ago and was told it was delayed because they had ran out of one of the finish materials. Of course I said " had you done it black ice maybe it would be here already". Laughs all around...well kinda. Anyways also would of liked the 4a neck profile used on the Cantrell guitars but nope on that either. Hopefully with a little luck it should be here soon! Been reading a lot of good stuff here, pretty cool forum.

Welcome! It sounds like that will be a nice guitar. Have you played G&Ls before?

Hi Ken, nice to meet you. So this is my first G&L endeavor. So how it came to be I was looking for a guitar with more versatility than the others I currently own. There is not many offerings for HSH pup configurations. Suhr guitars have some, but i'm not familiar with the gotoh bridges and tuning keys. I've always loved Jerry Cantrells sound so I was looking in to his stuff. I played a Rampage and the Superhawk and really liked them. The price point on the USA models is pretty steep and not very feature rich. And I didnt want a floating tremelo on my new guitar. The Invader has all the options I want, and G&L is a pretty highly regarded manufacturer, albeit not that for lack of a better word popular. What I mean by that is not a lot of shops are dealers for them. I had to drive about 70 miles to play the Cantrell models. I was also looking at a new Music Man but I didnt like the neck and I couldnt order it differently or in another color. So here I am...looking forward to some G&L stuff. I really like the ASAT deluxe also. That will likely be next.

They are one of the best kept secrets in the guitar world, and dealers are not that common. I've owned about thirty G&Ls - mostly from the Leo-era - but the only time I've been in a dealership was back in the late '90s. That dealer convinced me that G&L was the only brand worth purchasing new, but before I could save up enough money they had stopped being a dealership. I haven't come across another one since then.CrizzNikk wrote:The Invader has all the options I want, and G&L is a pretty highly regarded manufacturer, albeit not that for lack of a better word popular. Ever look at the old '70s MMs? Designed and built by George and Leo in the same factory where all US G&Ls have been built...CrizzNikk wrote:I was also looking at a new Music Man but I didnt like the neck and I couldnt order it differently or in another color. Congrats and thanks for sharing the great news. That sounds like a beautiful guitar, the blackburst is a very cool looking color. Looking forward to pics and tone report.
BTW....you will like the ASAT deluxe when you get one of those too, (a little enabling can go a long way around here)
