Hi, thanks for allowing me into the forum. I've had an L2500 since 2009, having owned an L1505 briefly around 2002/3, I sold that one on not really knowing what I had, still back with G&L now and can't imagine wanting to play anything else! I play through an Ampeg rig, SVT CL and classic 15 and 210 cabs. It really is great to find a forum full of like minded people!

Welcome Steve! It's good to see another low-ender around here. I stick to four strings, but one day I will find the right L-5000 to round out my harem of Leo-era basses.
The L-1500 (and L-1505) is overlooked way too often IMO. My L-1500 is one of the few post-1991 G&Ls I've owned. I thought it was pretty decent, and then I switched it over from rounds to flats. To my ears, it went from decent to incredible. It goes from reasonably close to a Stringray sound over the pickup, into L-1000 in OMG mode territory when played fingerstyle at the end of the neck.
I'm an Ampeg fan too. My main bass rig is an old B-15N. I used to chase after bass effects to try different sounds, but since I found the B-15 I've sold most of them. Nothing sounds as good as a G&L straight into that amp. A couple of days ago I tried a guitar through a '59 Ampeg Jet. It was desperately in need of a tune-up, but between the crackles and pops the tone was amazing. I may need to circle back around and check it out again.

Hi, thanks for the welcomes. I'm from Somerset in the UK by the way. I've tried a few amps over the years but settled on Ampeg in the end, as you say, a G&L straight into an Ampeg is an amazing sound! My drummer keeps trying to get me to try pedals, I don't see the point though, one of our bands is a classic rock covers band and the other is an originals band doing a heavy kind of blues rock where our guitarist has such a huge sound any effects would just get lost!
I sold my 1505, which was a beautiful translucent red finish, to fund a Maverick 5 string...big mistake but I needed a double octave neck for the stuff I was doing at the time. I was happy enough with that until I got the hankering for another G&L. I saw my bass for sale in London and so drove 160 miles to do a dodgy deal out the boot of a car on the outskirts of London. Never looked back though, I wouldn't play anything else now.

I did some genealogy with my son recently for a school project, and found that quite a few of our ancestors came from your neck of the woods. We hope to get over to see it some day.stevehill1000 wrote:I'm from Somerset in the UK by the way.
