Old retired Army Colonel... owned many high end Fender and boutique 'S' and 'T' styles, but just found my first G&L ASAT, and it may be my imagination, but it is the best guitar in all respects that I have owned... at a price point that is astonishing!!
Live in rural NE Oregon, at the foothills of the Blue Mountains...20 acres, six horses, three dogs and four cats. Otherwise just my lovely wife Laura, and the great outdoors!!
Looking forward to learning more about G&L from the experts on this forum. Thanks, Steve.

Okay, here goes on the photos.. the backstory first: an acquaintance of mine is a solo and R&B/Funk guitarist on the Monterey Peninsula. Several years ago, he befriended Steve Miller, who told him of this guitar that SM had on consignment in San Jose. He bought it, and several years down the road, sold it to me.
Based upon the neck pocket, it was built June 2004...and appears to be possibly one of the 2004 ASAT Classic S 'one-offs' as mentioned on the G&L website. I say this because of the build date (after the 2004 cutoff of Mar 2004), and the facts that it is swamp ash (6.2 lbs), hollowbody, three pickups, push/pull volume pot...but done in an Amber color (see photo of the sticker on the case) without the birdseye maple neck. Otherwise I have not seen one like it...but maybe some experts here could 'chime in'.

Wow - Cool As… Nice finish + the story and Signature factor really add to its Coolness… Didn't now Mr. Miller was into G&L's… but do know he hails from the PNW.

Does your muso friend have a band and/or website?

The guitar was purchase from http://www.guitarshowcase.com in San Jose, CA. About 5 minutes from where I live. They have been selling a lot of Steve Miller owned stuff. Guitars, amps, basses.

Though I never saw that particular guitar.

Thanks!! And between us, two distinct weather patterns as well... (Just got back in from moving my irrigation!!) I love Portland to visit...I have a son there that is a Paramedic...another son in Vancouver, USA. Visit there often!!

Thanks, KF!! I will pass that along to him; he will be thrilled to know his videos have reached all the way to NZ!! By the way, I always thought that NZ would be a great place to live...beautiful outdoor environments. The gentleman that helps me with my farming services is from New Zealand...one of the nicest and most helpful guys I have met.

Sweet As! Yeah, its a Rad place and very beautiful. Yes, folks are really nice, laid back and friendly lot like folks in the PNW which is where I originally hail from.
I drove thru Oregon on my move to and from San Diego & have been to Portland & Clackamas several times but didn't know Eastern Oregon gets 300 days of sunshine annually until I moved here. Cool - seems lots of Kiwis end up living in Oregon.

Interesting story that you hail from the PNW...what took you to NZ? Yes, we are very dry on the East side...same for Washington State. All the moisture is dropped west of the Cascade range. We irrigate our horse pasture and hayfield from May thru October!! We average only 12-13 inches rain per year!!

Ha… that's a long story. The short version is I met a Kiwi woman in Seattle and we hit it off. I had wanted to live somewhere else besides the USA and then she shows up. Took a few trips here and fell in love with the place...I have a first cousin who moved here in the early 90's having met his Kiwii partner in Portland.
Crikey - that's pretty arid sounding… Think we got that amount over the last 3 days…. Auckland's weather is very similar to Seattle's except here there's heaps more Sunshine.

Very interesting, KF!! I did some research on Auckland..it sure is a beautiful place, in a beautiful country. I saw that it was ranked 3rd in the world for best countries to reside. We live in a very rural part of the state....I actually like that!! Very laid back, and relaxed agricultural communities nearby. The mountains are very close, but nothing quite like what you have for scenery in NZ. You are a very lucky guy!!

Cheers RC! Yeah, its pretty stunning. I hear you - I was in Clevedon yesterday which is ~ an hour from the CBD and nothing but heaps of paddocks and rolling hills (and sheep) its was so refreshing. Wow, I knew it was up there but didn't know it was ranked #3. Ha! Seattle was rated the 'most liveable city in the world' back in the mid 90's…. its nice as but I think that's a bit much. Yeah, that could be but like the Boss sings, when it comes to luck we make our own…

Hey, KF... I think that Seattle must have been responsible for conducting the survey on best places to live...lol. I personally like Portland, OR better...perhaps because I always had so much trouble getting around in Seattle. And way too much seasonal rain..that mist all the time...but I guess Portland is no slouch there either. I just like Portland better...but obviously a lot of folks would disagree. Regardless, they are both great towns... I just love the rural life more!!

I've visited both Seattle and Portland and both are very, very nice. I like Seattle a bit better, but the street-folks there I found to be astoundingly aggressive and numerous. I went camping with my (to be) wife, her sister and her husband on a beach on the Oregon coast one time. We spent the afternoon catching a mess of dungeness crabs and an evening boiling them up and enjoying them with plenty of beer. Oh, to be young again!

Would like to explore NZ one day. Unfortunately, my frequent flyer miles will only take me about as far as Dayton, OH for the time being.
However, if someone will step forward to buy the SC-3 Rarebird I have listed in the Marketplace, well then anything is possible. Ha! - ed

Hey, Ed... yes, both cities are great! And I spent a lot of time also on the Oregon coast. My former wife's family has a vacation home in Seaside, OR...used to go out clamming...her grandmother made the absolutely best clam chowder ever. We would take a big pot of it, along with some great beer, breads, cheeses, etc..and head back to the early evening beach....make a bonfire, and just really enjoy all of it!! And, yes, to be young again!!

I see that as ASAT Classic S Semi-Hollow Honeyburst, no f-hole, pearl guard, maple neck with Vintage Gloss, white middle cover shipped on 7/29/2004 to Sunburst Guitar Gallery in Ketchum, Idaho. I don’t see anything about Steve Miller.

BTW, Amber finish was a Tribute only finish in 2004.
