Post by learner »

Hello newbie here,
I have an ASAT3 from what I can tell.
searched this forum and found out a lot of info.
Was wondering if anyone can tell me more about this guitar.
Had problems with the pictures but you can see the guitar in the Gallery ,search under Learner ASAT3
Thanks and Great site.

Hi learner,

That is a beauty!

Here's the pre-BBE ASAT III Rarebird page in the Registry. Your guitar is not registered yet and there is only one other registered with a Kahler vibrato. Loomks like a maple body and I love the early style truss rod with the nut sticking out, Think that makes it a pre-1991 version.

For more info, check Greg Gagliano's site, who has several ASAT III's listed, or my own site with 2 listed.

Thanks Jos,
I did register it but hasn't shown up on the list yet.
Might of done something wrong thou if it is suppose to be there right away.
From what the serial number says it should be a late 1987.
I also think it is a maple body.
Was wondering how you tell besides looking at it.
I also heard the 1 ply pick guard makes it an early version after the broadcaster.
Confused with the tuners thou have read that most are black and these are chrome.
Was there chrome in the early years 1986-1988?
Thanks for the reply

Good to have you around Learner,
That's a cool ASAT , I don't think I've seen one like it before.
My vote is for Maple too .
Where did you find it?

Hi Elwood,
Thanks for the reply
Actually the guitar found me.
My friend's dad was a guitar player and recently passed away.
He had 64 Strat and then bought this one.
She told me this was his favorite.
Sad thing she doesn't know what happened to the Strat. But that IS ANOTHER STORY.
So she contacted me and ask if I knew anybody that could use the guitar because she didn't want it.
I told her it looks like a real nice guitar that I would look up info on it and find out for her how much it might be worth so she wouldn't just give it away.
I think it reminded her of her dad too much she just wanted to get rid of it.
So I told her I will buy it from her because I think it should stay , sort of speak "in the family"
She said I want you to have it. She wouldn't take anything from me either.
I told her I will not sell it and now it looks like me or my kids will be learning how to play the guitar.
Hence the "learner" handle.

I have been searching the site for info and can't seem to find another picture of an Asat3 with the Kahler bridge.
I was just wondering if it is supposed to come with a bar or is that an option?
It did not have one with it.
Also was wondering if that is the correct case for the guitar.
I have seen one like it but none in the gallery here under cases.
Thanks for the help.

thanks guys
My mistake I just looked inside the case and under where the neck rests was the compartment with the bar and misc items.
There were strings , pics and a tuner which will help out greatly.
Now just wondering if the case is original and if there is anything special that I should use to keep the guitar clean or wipe it down with?
