Hey Guys first time posting here,
I just bought my 2nd G&L, It was being sold as an ASAT Special but I was wondering if anybody here had some kind of general info on it.(Pictures Below) The body date is March 1, 1996 but the neck does not have a date on it, there is some writing on it but since there is no date I'm starting to wonder if its the real deal or not.
If theres anything someone could tell me about this, that would be great. The neck is what is really puzzling to me.
Serial Number G047991
Black Tuners
Birdseye maple neck
Black knobs
No pickguard

Interesting axe,
The neck was made at G&L , the router pin locations and everything else looks right. Maybe an employee had it made after hours ? I like the custom markers (and birthmark inlay on the back).
The bridge pup is a (somewhat rare)HG humbucker, not what was offered on ASATs . It looks like an afterthought/experiment.
How does it sound ? The string alignment looks like it will be off, but it could sound good anyways.
There's a chance G&L has the guitar in the logbooks if it was an official sale.I'm not sure how far back the current archives go .
That neck looks real nice !

Thanks for the info!
It sounds great! the middle position is killer. I might have to try to take it to the factory and see what they know. (Its right around the corner from me). Glad to hear that neck was made at the factory!

Actually it is a Cavalier pup, technically known as HG-2R pup, which makes your guitar "identical" to my CavASAT prototype. You'll notice that the footprint is just not entirely identical to the ASAT MFD neck pickup, given the gap clearly showing in your guitar, indicating this pickup was not added at the factory but by a previous owner after the fact. Another thing is the top-binding and the belly cut on the body of your guitar. These options were available (together) only starting in 1996.Elwood wrote:IThe bridge pup is a (somewhat rare)HG humbucker, not what was offered on ASATs .
It is a gorgeous guitar nonetheless. Congrats!!

I didn't even notice that until you mentioned it, I just raised up that pup a little bit and saw the screw holes from the originals so it was defiantly added after the factory. The Body date is '96 but there is no neck date.yowhatsshakin wrote: You'll notice that the footprint is just not entirely identical to the ASAT MFD neck pickup

Welcome. I believe this one is and ASAT Deluxe, not an ASAT Special.

It is an ASAT Custom which had the bridge pickup replaced with a G&L Magnetic Field Design HG-2R "Angled-Offset" humbucking pickupKenC wrote:Welcome. I believe this one is and ASAT Deluxe, not an ASAT Special.

used in the Cavalier and Interceptor. See ASAT Custom.
BTW, the ASAT Special Deluxe evolved from the ASAT Custom in 2001 and still is in production.
Hope this helps.
