Factory Question

Post by nacho »

Hello all,

Just wanted to run by a scenario to see if anyone has any helpful thoughts.

I purchased a new Legacy Special back in mid-February from a dealer in the North East (I actually live in Fullerton, CA so it had to come all the way back). The day I received the guitar it became pretty obvious that the truss rod was shot. I emailed Chris R. at the factory and he responded the very next morning, and I dropped it off the following day (late February at this point).

He called me a few days later, confirmed the issue, said it would need a new neck, and gave me a timeframe of 3-4 weeks. Around the 4th week I emailed Chris and he said he would check with the floor manager for an update. Never heard back until late last week when I reached him by phone and he said it looks like it could be another week.

Come tomorrow it will be 6 weeks. I'm wondering if maybe the order for the new neck got lost in the shuffle and never got placed? Or is this all perfectly normal and I need to chill out? Backlog on necks? NCAA tournament to blame? Opening Day?

I'm not going to bug him anymore as I know he's super busy and don't want to be anymore of a nuisance than I've already been, but figured I could maybe get talked off the ledge some on the board. I know it's a first world problem and all that, but paying for a new guitar and then having to give it up the next day and waiting 6 (or more) weeks to get it back is a wee bit...frustrating. To be totally honest, I probably would have just returned it to the dealer and picked a different one had I known.

Anyhow, thanks for letting me get it all out. Cheers.

I forwarded your post to Chris and asked him to contact you with the current status.
I got a bounce back email indicating he is out of the office today but will be back tomorrow.
His work hours are 7am - 4pm.

Hopefully, you should be hearing from him some time tomorrow.

Hope this helps.

Thanks very much, Craig. I hope I didn't pee in the soup, so to speak, by posting this. I really didn't want to be a bother, but I just figured something may have gone sideways to take this long.

seems like my new neck took about 6 weeks , so that might just be normal depending how busy the factory might be ..... it was for sure less time than having a custom build

Factory must be utterly swamped, these days. I ordered a Fallout on Dec 28... I was quoted 8-10 weeks by the shop owner at that point. I am at week 13, and was told about 3 weeks ago it would be another 2-3 weeks. I am really hoping the wait is worth it. I guess I don't really mind it, I just wish I knew going into this that it'd be more like 16, maybe 20 weeks. That might have made me look harder at what was hanging on the wall...

Your order timing was the problem. You placed your order during the time the factory ramps up for Winter NAMM. You would have done
better if you placed the order in the beginning of December or right after NAMM, which was January 22-25 this year. My guess is that the dealer did
not check with the factory on the current lead times for your order. The good news is that the wait will be worth it.

I heard from Chris this morning. My LS should be ready for pick-up early next week. Thanks again, all.
