What's the difference? II

Post by surfco »

Hi, I would like to know what's the difference between neck width and width at nut?
If I can't get a 1'' to 1'' neck profile, would a 1 3/4 nut feel kind of the same?
Thanks.

Yeah, I mean, looking at the G&L USA options for the necks I see there is no neck with 1'' neck thickness at 1st fret to 1'' at the twelfth fret.
I see a "extra wide" profile (number 4) which is 1 3/4 width at nut.
Could that particular profile (number 4, 1 3/4 width at nut), have that "big neck" feel?
Btw, profile #4 is .830'' at 1st fret and .960'' at twelfth.

Are you talking about the thickness from the back of the neck to the top of the fretboard? I have no idea, but thought it might help to clarify exactly what thickness you are referring to.

Zapco is right, it will have a 'big neck' feel.

I'm talking about width at nut, not back thickness. If that helps.

The nut width and the neck width at the nut is the same. The #4 neck (G&L Extra Wide "C") is the widest neck size for the current G&L guitars.

Hope this helps.

Well, if I can't get a 1'' to 1'' neck, at least I'll get the widest G&L offer.
It is a shame (for me, at least) G&L doesn't offer fatter necks.
But, oh well... :P

You might ask your G&L Dealer to contact the factory and see if they would make the neck for
your order with a wide fat neck with a 1" depth.
