Re: More information about ASAT III
Nice looking ASAT III. Congratulations! Appears to be a swamp ash body and according to the registry, other guitars in that serial number range date to 1994. Pickups are the large MFD's.

For Flickr hosted photos, you need to use their Share BBCode link.
Here's your first photo:

A 1998-2000 would not have a 3-bolt neck though?? And the serial number would not start with "G"??Craig wrote:The model name is ASAT S-3. This model was in production from 1998-2000. The body finish on your's is Cherryburst.

I sent Dave the serial number in hopes of getting some build history. Here's his reply:Case24 wrote:A 1998-2000 would not have a 3-bolt neck though?? Perhaps a previous owner added a middle pickup to an ASAT Special. Hopefully current owner will be able to look in the neck pocket and neck heel,Hi Craig,
Unfortunately I can't find that serial number. I think that would be around late '94 though. His best bet is to look in the pickup pockets for info as well as whatever may be in the neck pocket and heel. Well, you know that.
Thanks, Craig!
Dave
for the build dates.
It is curious.

According to this article on Greg Gagliano's G&L sight; factory stock mid 90's S3's do show up from time to time.Craig wrote: Perhaps a previous owner added a middle pickup to an ASAT Special. Hopefully current owner will be able to look in the neck pocket and neck heel,

Ah yes, I had forgotten to check Greg's G&L site. I just checked our G&L Registry and there are three 3-bolt S-3 registered,Case24 wrote:According to this article on Greg Gagliano's G&L sight; factory stock mid 90's S3's do show up from time to time.Craig wrote: Perhaps a previous owner added a middle pickup to an ASAT Special. so it is quite possible this S-3 came from the factory as it is.
Lander, if you could post photos of the pickup routes that will help determine if the middle route was done at the factory.Lander wrote:Wow thanks for your replies!!! I will look in the pickup pockets as soon as I get the guitar...

Re: More information about ASAT S-3
I would say, because the neck and bridge pickup routes are finished, and the middle pickup is not, that it left the
factory as an ASAT Special. Some past owner must have had the middle pickup added later and they did do a
very good job on the route and installation.
Just my $0.02.

Re: More information about ASAT S-3
Hi!!
I left my guitar at the luthier to adjust the truss rod but he couldn't do anything. He did not find any appropriate allen key that could fit in it.
Could anyone tell me if the truss rod is broken? It seems that the truss rod nut is missing Or I need a special allen key for g & l?
Thank you very much!

Re: More information about ASAT S-3
If the guitar's playing well and the setup feels good, it's fairly unlikely that the truss is broken. That would usually cause a noticeably over-large relief to develop in the neck.
If your tech is unhappy with the challenge, I'm sure some research will find you someone with the skills, tools and cojones to get your lovely guitar sorted.
