Help Me Find Another ASAT Classic Signature

Hello.

New to the forum here. I have had an ASAT Signature for the past 13 years. I think it was built in the early 90s. 2 single coil pickups. It is by far the best guitar I've ever owned. Swamp Ash body. Amazing low gloss flame maple neck. Spectacular feel, tone and sustain. Spertzel tuners. Serial # G030335. Neck dimensions are:

Width
Nut 1.63.
12th 2.03.

Thickness
Nut .79
12th .885

Would post photos if I could figure out how.

I've played a couple at stores (very hard to find anyone that carries USA models, especially more than 1 or 2). I've bought and returned through ebay. Nothing I have seen live comes close. Any thoughts on how to get another? Or whether G&L make a new one that even comes close?

Hi - yeah, that sounds like an early transitional model… I agree, ASAT Sigs of any configuration are great guitars… I suggest just searching Ebay - they're not that uncommon on there but the SIg factor adds to the price… still tho IMO, they're very underrated guitars and I'm surprised they don't fetch 2k+….

I agree with Katefan that it is probably from the transition as BBE took over. It sounds like the neck finish they introduced. If you don't want to remove the neck to check date stamps, you can get an idea of the age by looking at the end of the fretboard. If the bottom of fretboard is curved just like the top ("thin veneer"), your guitar was built before 1992. Since the Signature Series ended in late 1992, a flat bottom on the fretboard (or "slab" construction) would only show up on Signature Series instruments built that year. Of course with G&L there are always exceptions, but that should be pretty accurate.

You'll need to focus your search on ASAT Classics built right around the same time as yours. I believe the model went into production in 1987, so I would look from there through around 1992. It shouldn't matter whether the guitar is a Signature, as the only difference was the decal.

You're welcome. One other thing: take a very close look at any ASAT Classics that are described as having a white, metal pickguard. That would have been a distinguishing feature of that time frame. If you haven't already, check Greg Gagliano's website for details about early ASAT Classics (http://www.ggjaguar.com).
