1988 G&L MINTerceptor... pics and tone report

Post by verybestal »

As G&L nuts, we all have our preferences - years, models, colors.

Well, about a month ago I struck gold on all counts - it's a beautiful MINTerceptor built during what I like to call the "Dale" era (my favorite, 1987-91). 1 3/4" nut, 25in radius, maple body, rosewood board, sickle head.

The catch is, I got it for less than half of what I would've happily paid for it!

TONE REPORT: To die for! I was shocked... The schaller humbucker is actually my favorite pickup on this beast. That's hard to admit, as the skyhawk pups are my favorite from the Leo-era. The tone is extremely pure and powerful. The maple bodies usually compliment mfds anyway. This *may* finally dethrone my 87 skyhawk.

Any other Interceptor lovers out there?
I plan on posting a video tone report soon...

Oh my, even though this model is just not my thing, you have to recognize a beauty when you see one. And what a beauty this is!! Beautiful color scheme, headstock. Well, the whole lot actually!

Congrats my man and enjoy the ride with this thing. :happy0065:

Surely that has to be a 'one-of-a-kind', glad you found your grail! We don't see nearly enough of these hair metal models.

That red amp looks nice - what is it?

Nice looking Interceptor! I've never seen one in that color combination. I've got one, and they are fun guitars! My favorite tone on it is the bridge & middle pickup together. Here's my '88:

wow, that's a coooool finish !

I had one that was very dark blue/purple (looks black in the pic) , I remember it sounded
very hi-fi , a nice sparkle with a tight fundamental .

Guys, thanks for the comments and PHOTOS!
Going to save those in my collection.

The amp was built by Memphis amp builder, Robert Hinson. It's a 2-channel supro/brownface inspired.

I VIDEO'd the guitar in action and will edit and post soon...

Cool! I have a Robert Hinson head, "british" flavored. No frills but great sound!

@verybestal
Really cool colour scheme.

@Sprinter 92
The black paint/faux binding really sells these colours.
