The place to discuss, post photos, video, and audio of the G&L products (US instruments, stomp boxes, etc.) produced after 1991, including the amps & gear we use with them.

New member. Looking at ASAT Classic S. I have questions...

Post by RWP »

hello all,

I'm looking at getting a Classic S Alnico and have questions. Some of which will occur as my research and this thread progresses. hehe.

I'm currently considering ordering the following:
Alnico Classic S
Clear Orange finish, single white body binding and white pickguard.
rosewood fretboard with stainless frets

Questions:
1) Are there any photos of what the neck profiles look like ? I keep finding info in measurements but what are C, V and U shapes ?
I have a 82 Ibanez ES-50 that has a neck I love and I'm looking for something similar. Decades ago I owned a late 60's strat and wasn't a fan of how it felt.
The local dealer has no Asat Classics in stock so i can't try one . The sales guy there said he thinks a Slim C is what I'm looking for ?
Are there any commonly sold guitars that have similar neck profiles ?
Maybe I should create a template of my ibanez and upload it so someone can let me know which one would be similar.

2) What are the fret sizes ? They list jumbo and vintage, but again what does that mean in the real world ?

3) I was going to ask about the visual difference between the different "dots" but I figure I should be able to find some close up photos online.

I'm a bit worried about spending over $2,000 on guitar I have never played and have considered buying a tribute but I'm also thinking... go big or go home.
The biggest annoyance IMO is that the resale value is so low. Too many people who would rather buy a "real" fender ?

Thanks for any help.

what is the nut width on the Ibanez ?? ...... visualize a U being a thicker neck than a D with the straight part of the D being the fret board ..... a D thicker than a C .... V shape is kinda pointed , soft V pointed less the regular V ...... slim C is a shallow/slim C shape
