Lunch Report 2/18/2015

Post by Sprinter 92 »

There have been very few Lunch Reports over the past few months and I miss them. I retired from working on cars last Thursday and have been spending plenty of time with my guitars when I'm not looking for a new job.

G&L: I mentioned above that I've been spending a lot of time with my guitars. I've mostly been playing my '86 Asat and '99 Les Paul Standard. What G&L model have you been playing lately?

I want to see a photo of the G&L, you've been playing the most lately!

Playing out: In my travels I have found the ultimate place to play your G&L. It's the G&L Bar & Grill.

I picked up my 86 ASAT in December. I haven't played any of my other guitars since.

Sprinter - I love those cars. Didn't realize you were building/working on them all this time. That's cool!

You're right about black guitars. There's special magic in them.
I keep buying and playing G&Ls, but #1 remains #1:

Hey Sprinter!

Glad to see yer Lunch Report, I miss them too. (maybe this will entice others!)

Retired from working on cars!?! Wow, I have you tied to cars for so long. Still avoiding those hybrids based on the experience you posted some time ago. Hope yer job search leads to something fun, exciting and profitable.

Lately I've had these in my hands, primarily a lot of time testing an old amp with new tubes attenuator etc. Will discuss more in a bit.

Also my 88 ASAT that is a twin of glvourot has been used as a test mule as well. That is a tone tester!

I can see the next G&L Jam at the G&L bar and grill.

Steve, I wish you luck in your new employment search.

Like you, I miss the LR's but it seems as though most do not want to do them. It does take a lot of preparation.

There are some very nice guitars shown today. Also the G&L Bar & Grill is cool and looks like a good place to hang out and jam a bit! It is difficult to decide which of my G&Ls are the most fun but this one is fun. It is also one of my earliest G&L's. I sold a new American Deluxe Fender that I had installed a Bigsby on to fund this one and I have never looked back.

The racing must be a good diversion from the real world. Looks like fun.-- Darwin

Hey Sprinter,

Thanks for stepping up today… Wow - that sounds like a big shift for you… best of luck on your job search.

Cool ASAT - what type neck does it have - #2, #4 or ???

I've been playing my '86 quite a bit along with the tobacco burst I posted pics of the other day…

Image

LOL - the G&L Bar and Grill - that's Rad.

Cheers,

Thanks for posting an LR, and good luck with the job search!

My '86 ASATs haven't been taking a back seat to a couple of their SC-2 ancestors lately, but since were on an '86 ASAT theme here's the ebony version of yours:

Image

I don't have any good pics of my other '86, but here's a non-Kahler headstock photo to prove its existence:

Image

This is the one that's been getting most of the playing lately:

Image

I also had a very good time playing this '81 F-100 the other night. Sometimes I forget just how versatile those guitars were:

Image

The other go-to guitar for me over the past couple of months has been an '84 SC-2 (with a Strat-type body) that came to me from another forum member last year. I don't have any pics of it yet.

I feel like I should also mention the basses, but I can't say I've been favoring any of them lately. They all get about the same amount of playing time. This one may have a slight edge - it's not a G&L, but it is Leo-era:

I hope that's enough pics!

Interesting Asat! What kind of pickup is in the neck position?

It's fun, but a lot of work. Thess photos show the downside of the sport. Nearly everything on the car was damaged.

I love the look of those Black ASAT's w/kahlers, a black studded jacket would go well with them 8-)

Thanks for the Lunch Report, Sprinter.

The G&L I've been playing most often is my 1990 all red SC-3. Most of the hours I spend playing guitar is at my hobby band practice, and I need a whammy bar for a couple of songs, I mostly use either my Melancon Pro Artist or the SC-3.

Sprinter,

The ASAT I posted is a 1995 ASAT that I put a Paul Gagon Bluesboy Neck humbucker in. Always wanted to try a Bluesboy with a big MFD in the bridge so off to project world I went. Great sounds, you should build one.

Here's a link to my post on the project.

thanks for the lunch report , congrats on retirement and good luck finding a job and racing

keeping up with the 1986 theme although this one is put away while we have company with us , picture was taking right after a medium jumbo re-fret
Image

the three out right now and have been out the last month , my Fallout , Legacy and Rampage

my Fallout , I don't put this one away and it's my number 1 guitar
Image

I really like the wide neck on this 1986 rampage , I'm surprised how easy it is to go back and forth on the neck between the number 4 and 1 neck , this one just got refretted with medium jumbo SS and had the locking nut changed and some Bass Kahler springs installed in my trem , it holds a tune now
Image

last but not least my 013 Legacy , this one has sat in the case more than any G&L I own (except the LE2 wich was on purpose)... the legacy just never sound as good as my other G&L (particularly my S500) , I have a few nice amps but nothing that ever made the Legacy sound better than my other G&L's or stand out until this Christmas when I received a Carvin VT 50 amp head , every guitar has a amp and this Carvin VT 50 makes my Legacy stand out like a match made in heaven , if I was in a Country band this pair would makes the ladies cry it sounds so good together

Got any photos of the inside of the bar - I'd love to check it out!

I've been playing my Bluesboy a lot recently, its the guitar I always come back to as a favourite. Its currently masquerading as a regular ASAT Classic, having spent the last few months as a Solamente - I missed the neck pickup too much in the end.

I've been playing the sparkly WR in recent weeks. She's a beauty with a silky neck to boot!
