Long time G&L fan, new member.

Lately I've found myself wanting to start a thread about something more specific at around 2 or 3 in the morning, at the point of ultimate frustration, but I remembered reading at some point that the admin would prefer everyone to setup up their profile, and post an introduction thread, before engaging in other endeavors on the forum. With that in mind Ive decided to bite the bullet and introduce myself.

I've lusted after a G&L Asat since I was 13. My first, only, and very briefly attended, guitar teacher; played an Asat Special. At the time, I didn't care for the looks of it. Especially the clear orange finish...
But I remember being astounded by the range of styles he could play with it.
At around 15, Robert, my mentor/great friend/stepdad; took me to a guitar show in Pasadena.
A private seller was shifting a Fender Broadcaster. Robert kind of explained the Copyright issues, and the Broadcaster, no Caster, Telecaster "thing".
G&L also had a vendor spot. Robert told me the story he had heard about Leo's fall out with Fender after the CBS buyout, working with George at Music Man, and eventually starting G&L. He went on to explain that he had heard, Leo named the Asat, as a shot to the telecaster, which was now the inferior product. Asat being short of Anti Satellite missle. Broadcaster, later the telecaster suggesting the concept of a satellite, hence...Asat, tele killer.

At around 20, I finally picked up my first Asat.
A 3bolt, G&L Asat w/ in a Blue Burst finish over swamp ash, Jumbo MFDs, maple neck and fretboard, Saddlelock bridge, with crinkle black hardware accents. I believe its a '92.

The rest of my G&L stable now includes:
A 2000ish Semi-Hollow w/f hole, BluesBoy, Sunburst Finish, Rosewood fretboard.

A very unusual Asat with an HSS configuration. The humbucker is some sort of Seymour Duncan, no cover. The believe the single coils are in house Alnicos.
Very thin profile neck, Maple. Natural finish, swamp ash body, Saddlelock Bridge,

I recently picked up a Leo Era, 86 SC-3 with Dual Fulcrum bridge, 3 bolt, maple neck, fretboard, and body. Two tone sunburst finish. Single coil MFDs.

I also own a Tribute L-2000, that I hope to replace eventually with a 3 bolt L2500, and an SB2.

In mid December I placed an order with MusicSource123 for #23 or 25, GbL LE-2. I was bummed to hear they would no longer be using the baked maple...but I am still very excited to get my hands on it.

I play a little guitar, bass, and like to consider myself a singer. I work full time, and play as a hobby. I've got a youtube channel I post covers on.
I've recently uploaded a few covers soley featuring my Asats, and l-2000. Mainly Jeff Buckley, Radiohead, Modest Mouse etc...

Thanks for the very informative site. I've lurked around here for at least the last 5 years. Hopefully I'll be able to contribute to the community in some small way, moving forward.

I ended up going with a #1 quarter sawn, maple on maple, with reversed headstock and medium jumbo frets. Opted for the DFS bridge, graphtech nut, Tobacco Burst finish, and vintage creme pick guard.
How are you liking yours? She's a beauty. I really like the trans blue finish.
I'm curious how the bridge mfd hb sounds split. Anxious for get an idea for the tonal characteristics of the guitar. I love the jumbo mfds in my ASAT.

When I get it in, I'll get round to posting better pictures of the rest of the collection.

I need to get my LE 2 out of the closet , I bet I don't have 3 hours total on it ...... I have more grandkids here for about a month so I probably won't get it out till March , my Broadcaster and LE 2 are both closet queens for the moment

quartersawn maple /maple with tobacco burst is a good choice , I can't remember how the bucker sounds split it's been too long since it was out , I have bought a few amps since last time the LE2 was out and it seems that each guitar has it's own favorite amp so I'm eager to try it out
