What version of the Bluesboy did you order (solid body or Semi-Hollow)? Which body finish did you order?
The Semi-Hollow model body is Swamp Ash only. The solid body version can be either Alder for Standard finishes or Swamp Ash for Premier finishes.
See: 2014 G&L U.S. Specifications and Options.

Hope this helps.

Hi Craig it was a solid body, Alder in solid black with top edge wood binding so there was the expected £117 cost of binding but I didnt think Alder Body was a premium upgrade at £119.

Well, you might want to point out to the dealer, that Alder is the "standard body wood" and there should not be any premium upgrade charge.
Ask him to look it up in the latest Price List.

Here's the quote from the August 1, 2014 US Price List:
Finish Standard finishes included
Body Alder on standard and all solid finishes

+1. If they insist on charging you extra for an alder body I'd be taking my business elsewhere.
