Metal flake!! Show me your METAL FLAKE G&L's!!

I've custom ordered an ASAT Special (semi hollow w/ Bigsby) in red metal flake that'll be here in a few weeks, and I need something to keep me from going into withdrawals. ;)

That is GORGEOUS!! I am definitely jealous. Not usually a fan of gold flake, but that is one awesome finish!!

2 different Turquoise sparkle WR's - finishes by Mac Whiteside.

Image
Mac made a WR brand that he used to "brand" some of the later guitars I got from him in the upper bout.

Image
It's subtle, but Mac put a thin band of silver sparkle for binding around the body.

Image
And earlier WR without the brand.

Wow folks..... some amazing metal flakes out there!

Personally, a nice change of pace, I feel ........ although I still love my blondes and 'bursts.

A recently acquired gem ... my 97/99 ASET Special in Emerald Blue flake.

I have been assured that it isn't 'turqoise' either, by folks who know these things far better than I do.

Here is a little intro on the B Bender from Helle-Man and all around good guy Will Ray. Check out some of his recordings sometimes. Monster stuff.

Man - need some shades to look at all this sparkle guys! :elguitar054:

Tony,

This thread is a nice demonstration of the subtle (or not so subtle) difference between a 'Sparkle' finish and a 'Metal Flake'. Most are Metal Flake finishes with a coarser 'grain' in the finish whereas your guitar and the 2 Climaxes above are Sparkles with a finer grain. Both are beautiful though!

Jos , wouldn't the Climax and the Special be considered Metalic instead of flake ??

I believe they would be referred to as Metallic. They are beautiful. The Candy Apple process is a bit different as the top color is influence by the undercoat which is usually a silver or gold which changes the hue of the topcoat. -- Darwin

Scott,

Now that you had a while. How does the LE-2 stack up to your other sparkly guitars?
