Hey, I'm new here... I'm looking really hard at a new Fallout. I am trying now to decide if the USA-made instrument is worth the increase in price. I am a casual guitar player but hoping to be more serious about it going forward.

I bought three usa 80's g&ls last month.
800 $ each.
Best money I have ever spent.
They will only increase in value and sound amazing.
I say if u live in the usa.
Buy usa!
If you live outside the states.
Buy one anyway.
We need the support and they are imho superior instruments Yes!

I don't own any Tributes but my dealer recently started stocking them ..... the only thing I didn't like on the Tribute Fallout I looked at was that it had a loose neck pocket , of the 5 different Tribby models in in stock 2 had a sloppy neck pockets , the other three models looked great ... I don't know if this is once in awhile thing and they were unlucky enough to have two ??...... but out of my 11 G&L's my USA Fallout is my number 1 guitar , wouldn't want to be without it

Welcome and congrats on your choice of new guitar!

GO USA! Not just getting into the Olympics mode, all things lar7200 said. I own quite a few G&L's and all are USA except one that was a project guitar. The Tribby series are quality guitars but IMHO USA models just feel better, and are better value.

Thanks for the comments, gang. I was talking with a family member earlier today and he offered a different way of thinking about it that I liked a lot. The feedback here echoes somewhat, but I think I'll throw this out there because it might help someone else.

In a nutshell, he said, "look, you have a $1500 guitar already. The $400 fit and finish is not going to be on that level, so just go with the USA even though it costs more. It'll be an unknown but you probably won't be disappointed because you know the overall quality of a guitar at that price point."

Even if the Tribute does punch above its weight, I've pretty much decided on the USA.... Hopefully I can get my order placed tomorrow.

There is a music store about 20 minutes south of the IL/WI border that has 6 Fallouts in stock, including some of the new Detroit Muscle Series. Before you order (and wait), prolly a good idea to take a short road trip.

Awesome! What did you end up ordering?

I wanted something unique, and classic feeling, so I went with a Fallout in Vintage White with tortoise shell pickguard, 1b "fast" neck with natural headstock, rosewood fingerboard and locking tuners. Now I play the waiting game! He says it'll take 2, 2.5 months. I don't mind the wait but I wish it was a bit faster.

I thought I was going to order through them too but the guy who is somewhat local to me basically just impressed me with his idea of customer service and his willingness to make me happy. I am a boat owner as well, and I learned early on that the relationship you build with the dealer is sometimes more important than the bottom line. In this case, however, the bottom line was very favorable as well.

I was going for a vintage, 50's or early 60's look. I didn't realize how hard the wait was going to be, and because of when I placed the order, they probably only received it yesterday or even today. So the clock only barely started ticking. It's going to be a long 8-10 weeks.

I'm still waiting and frankly, it's driving me up the wall. I talked with Bob at Music Source about 2 weeks ago and he said it was still going to be two or three weeks. My '78 Guild and '96 Ibanez are getting lonely, waiting for their sister to arrive. I've gone so bonkers I've even started playing with the configurator again, trying to figure out what's going to come next! (Honeyburst/white pearloid/quarter-sawn maple Blues Boy, anyone?) This is not an economical hobby, folks.

Those are a couple of reasons that I'm happy to remain obsessed with Leo-era instruments. The wait is never much more than the length of the FedEx shipment, and there's no temptation to plan the next purchase. It's just a matter of being ready when one on the wish-list shows up on the market.

I'm sure your new one will be worth the wait.
