Invader with a shallower neck?

The place to discuss, post photos, video, and audio of the G&L products (US instruments, stomp boxes, etc.) produced after 1991, including the amps & gear we use with them.

Invader with a shallower neck?

Post by andrius »

I like overall looks of the Invader, but unfortunately, I believe the #3 neck (0.830 at 1st fret) is too thick for me, it's a dealbreaker. Is it possible to somehow get one with the thinnest 12" radius neck?

My understanding is neck option is only available if saddle lock bridge is specified. Then a 1c neck would be the thinnest option with 12 inch radius.

I own a Tribute model Invader and it has a nice slim neck, and it has a 12" radius with the saddle lock bridge. Plays very well. Sadly I will probably be parting with it soon. Does not see much action anymore. Would really like to put the neck on an ASAT body, but doubt that will ever happen. If you can find one, they are very nice for imports and came out of Korea from what I understand.

The way I understand it: The stock bridges for the Invader models are now: G&L Saddle-Lock and G&L Dual Fulcrum vibrato.
The Original Floyd Rose USA locking vibrato is an available option.
There are no neck profile options available on Invader models equipped with the Original Floyd Rose USA locking vibrato system.
I believe you can order any of the optional neck profiles if you order either the G&L Saddle-Lock or G&L Dual Fulcrum vibrato bridges.

As always, check with your G&L dealer to confirm the specific features and options you want before placing an order.
Specifications are subject to change without notice.

See: 2014 G&L U.S. Specifications and Options.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the info. I have an other question: how is the standard Invader's neck #3 compared to current Fender American Standard Stratocasters? Is G&L #3 thinner or thicker? Is the shape any different?

The specs of each neck:

G&L #3 neck: 1 11/16" nut width, 12" radius fretboard, Wide "C" shape, 0.830" 1st fret depth; 0.960" 12th fret depth
Fender AS neck: 1 5/8" nut width, 9.5" radius fretboard, Modern "C" shape, unknown 1st and 12th fret depths

I own neither of these, so I cannot give an accurate comparison. Perhaps other members can chime in.

Sorry, but not much help.

Craig,
I'm confused about something. The link you posted leads me to believe that all neck options are available for the Fallout. Yet on the G&L site I read the following:

* SC-2, Fallout and F-100 have no neck profile options available at this time.

Can you find out if the Fallout is still in the #1 neck profile holding pattern?

Thanks.

The G&L website has lagged behind from the last couple of Dealer Price Lists. There is a new US Dealer Price List as of August 1, 2014.
I have the most current information of the various option details in the G&L Knowledgebase, so check them out before ordering.
Regarding ordering optional neck sizes for the Fallout, they can be ordered as an option, see: 2014 G&L U.S. Specifications and Options.

All G&L dealers should have this latest Dealer Price List and it is what they would use when placing an order.

I do know that Dave is actively looking for a local Web / Social Media Contractor. See: http://www.glguitars.com/jobs/index.asp .

I do try to keep the Knowledgebase information as up to date as I can. But, as with any manufacturing company, specifications are subject to change without notice.

Hope this helps.

Thank you, Craig. Happy Thanksgiving.

It looks like I might be looking at some Fallout designs on the guitar builder this weekend. :)
#3 neck coming up.
