Replacement Saddles for 95 Legacy

Post by Applesnapple »

Hello all,

I need some help finding replacement saddles for my 95 Legacy. She's new to me, and in great condition other than the saddles & springs. Any idea of known replacements? Are they the same dimensions as strats?

Thanks.

Yeah...that's the thing...only the stainless saddles are..and they want 70 bucks for them. I'm also just curious as to whether they are odd dimensions, and if anyone has experience using saddles from other manufacturers?

I'd wait on the store, or contact G&L/local dealer to find out how long before they might be available.

Not only do I think you really want G&L saddles for the best fit, I'm also under the impression that neither 'vintage' saddles nor 'import' saddles are exactly the right size--I suspect they are somewhere between. The saddles are worth the cost and worth the wait, IMO.

A little bit of the finest grit sandpaper (or the like) where there may be rust, or where saddles and strings make contact might aid you if the current ones ARE in borderline condition while you wait. Some drops of oil or PTFE lube (see: finish line dry) can help if you have trouble with rusted screws/threads that jam up in the saddles, etc.

The PTFE lube is a good product for nut slots, especially for staying in tune effortlessly with trem use (and plenty of other places around the house, etc).

Hey, not too long ago there wasn't even a G&L parts store! I'm glad that there is one now, finally...though I sympathize with wanting to get your guitar in top condition ASAP.

One thing I noticed, which is in line with one of the links Craig provided, is that the saddles on my brand new comanche tribute are considerably different than those on my 95 Legacy. Perhaps my original description is slightly wrong in regards to the saddles. They seem ok, but the saddle springs, especially the low E is significantly corroded. See pic:
